Re: Skin! Skin! and Skin!!!
I think people are failing to pay attention to or accept the reality that these holes/indents/poc marks are deeply damaged skin.. which is permanent. There is no widely effective surgical intervention or cosmetic treatments that will fix this damaged skin. When one has acne, the bacteria in the spots/cysts literally eats the skin away and causes this damage. The most effective measures are preventative… so dealing with the active acne itself before it can cause such skin damage… either through diet, oral or topical medication or even having the capsules (which contain the bacteria and other matter) of the spots/cysts extracted.
Dermarollers, microdermabrasion… they won’t make any difference once this has happened to the skin because the damage is too deep.
As I said before, it will improve with age.. meaning the holes will become shallower. But we are talking 10, 20, 30 years. So the best thing you can do is put a regime in place to keep your skin in good condition to facilitate the natural process. Peels and Retin-A aren’t going to be overnight fixes but with regular and continued use, your skin should get in and stay in better condition.
Thanks to Paheli, there is so much info on GS about these products for anyone who wants to use them.
Retin-A is not available in the UK other than through prescription. It is proven to rebuild collagen and is also prescribed for any active ance (although things may get worse before getting better). I recently got some from Europe and am following Paheli’s guidelines (with the aim of wrinkle prevention) and have not encountered any problems at all yet.
THIS!!
While overall healthier lifestyle is extremely important and would be a great idea to get started on, you also need to take care the problem at hand and not let your skin get damaged further by scarring etc. Hook up with a dermatologist, do your research and go to someone reputable. My derm changed my life and gave me my face back.
