^ agreed, their approach is too soft.
What I gather is they're trying to instate their own shariah (i.e. gov't) so as to undermine the clout of the Taliban, as in "look, we've got a shariah already, so on what grounds will you convince people to support you now?".
But shariah is very clear about treason. You want to put shariah on these lands, then you better give yourself full grounds to hang any terrorist you get your hands on - and do it in front of everyone so it gives everyone the full understanding that if they join terrorists, unki jaan ki salaamat nahi hai.
And if they cannot distinguish a terrorist from a non-terrorist, it gives the state the full right to go into each home and look for weapon stashes and capture all the inhabitants of such homes.
Thats probably what they will have to do eventually, hunt these people house by house... There are other options im sure. Seems as though the Army is goign to continue to change its strategy until something finally works.
