When I was in Pak I noticed a lot of places had Singaporean rice on their menu. It’s just a name, I guess.
OP- that rice will be good paired with spring rolls I guess!
I like FKF recipes but some times they differ a lot from the traditional ways things are made at our homes. Like custard powder in kheer as one poster said abv.
Ok I just saw the link you posted khatti and that dish looks scrumptious. Will have to try it.
Does anyone else have a desi Singaporean rice recipe. Everyone pointing out the mayo sauce
Is just making me wonder.
I don’t try her desserts coz she doesn’t make them the right way. and I’m a dessert snob.
We been to that restaurant. Its in Little India, isnt it? Didn’t have the fish head though. So when we saw banana leaf in LA, we were excited. The only thing we could eat was this dish. It was kinda nice.
a little off topic, but are her recipes really that bad? I’ve been meaning to try some of them because they seem to have a lot of popular reviews but never quite gotten to it.
^ I honestly don’t think fauzias recipes are bad especially for beginners who want to make something other than chicken n rice. I have tried several of her recipes mostly chicken ones with a few changes here and there and they turn out good. I know she adds water in her sabzi dishes while my mom is strongly against adding water in any vegetables so I just follow the basic recipe to get an idea but don’t add water if suggested.
I have never tried Singaporean rice but there used to be couple of good recipes floating on GS.. May be you can search that to see the difference.. Desis have to have desi spices to call it a “meal” and there us nothing wrong with that
Ok so the verdict was that fauzia kitchen fun’s Singaporean rice were a hit with my guests. They licked the pan clean. And the ladies even asked for the mayo sauce recipe.
Authentic Singaporean rice or not it is going in my recipe rotation list for sure. I served it with spring rolls, chicken corn soup, and Asian citrus salad.
Again, I have no problem with the recipe itself lol, just the title/naming of it. I don’t feel it should be called something it’s not lol.
As far as FKF recipes, for me, they are extreme hit and miss. I like her bread/rolls/halwa poori, but aside from that not much else. Even the filling for her chicken bread was weird, I only use the dough recipe and follow the technique, but make my own better fillings lol
Lol this is an interesting topic! Haven’t really tried FKF’s recipes, but I remember a few years back a guppan posted a recipe/picture of Singaporean rice. I made it, and it was pretty good. (I was to cooking wha ta newborn is to life) and it took me about 2-3 hours to make. :sid:
Interesting…I just can’t get over the rice and pasta mix, sound so strange
About fauzia I only tried one recipe of her’s, the chicken bread. Like Khatti I also use my own filling, her dough was good though! Went on her website today after reading this and she even has an app. Might try more of her recipes.
She has about 200, 000 fans and they send pics. It is an excellent reference for beginners…it may not be as great for seasoned cooks like khatti…most ppl who try the chicken bread change the filling. I for one never follow any reason to the letter - baked desserts are an exception. I alter to my preference. She has a lot of great ideas though…
As for as Singaporean rice - it is more a desi fusion dish just like most orientatal dishes made in Pakistan. You don’t be able to find similar dishes in authentic Chinese restaurants.
My kids/husbands favorite filling is buffalo chicken so here’s what I do:
Boil boneless chicken pierced with salt, black pepper and adrak lasan until done, then drain and cool. In a food processor, add the chicken, softened cream cheese, blue cheese crumbles, a teaspoon or two ranch dressing (the powdered kind you get in an envelope, like Hidden Valley brand, not the prepared salad dressing!) and then your favorite buffalo hot wings sauce (as much as you can stands!..pulse it all in the food processor until combined well…you don’t want a totally mushy paste, the chicken should still be able to be tasted and seen)
Make the chicken bread as usual then
This is our go to snack for football games or cricket matches lol..
