IMO CNN spent far too much time educating viewers about the Sikh religion. It is not clear why it is so imoportant to educate the audience re: how Sikhism is different from Hinduism or Islam.

I had a reason. Phrases such as mistaken identity have been tossed around. Since 2001 there has been concern Sikhs have been mistaken for Pathans. My point being - no one deserves to be shot down. Mistaken identity logic implies it is kind of ok if victims were Muslims.
In the immediate moments following this tragedy time would have been better spent stressing this rather than focus on how Sikhs are not Muslims (or Hindus)

NO! i do NOT think it implies that what you are saying...it ONLY means that Sikhs have been targeted in error...the shooter's intended target may have been someone else...just like you hear about a street crime where gang member shoots an innocent person...it doesn't imply that the shooting the real target is OK...talking about a possible mistaken identity is just an addition to the information about the shooter. anyways, you are entitled to what you wanna think but i do NOT agree with you...sorry! :)

I have not watched the coverage of this incident, but from what I have read so far CNN believes that the guy mistakenly attacked the temple (considering it to be a Muslim place of worship). Correct me if I am wrong.

Witnesses are saying the gunman had a 9/11 tattoo and most of those **** were the men wearing turbans, primarily the priests/clergy/holy men...
So sad.

no, a reporter just mentioned the possibility that it could be a mistaken identity attack...but he also mentioned that we must not speculate as it's too early to say anything about the shooter...he mentioned a case in Phoenix right after 9/11 when a white shooter shot N killed a sardar jee mistakenly for a muslim...both wear turbans but they distinctly look different which the shooter did NOT know.

But the news is reporting that were was only one... The same one who was shot and killed by officers.

I have no idea what in the world you’re saying… The reason I posted this is because due to that statement, this case is being taken out of the local authorities hands and being investigated by the FBI.

yes, there was a solitary shooter...in an environment of chaos and terror, everybody thought that there was one than one shooter because the shooter went around the inside and outside the building giving an impression that there were multiple shooters. the sounds from the gun came from different parts of the building.
the President of the Temple tried to tackle the shooter and in the process he got shot and seriously wounded...he probably told the police there was ONLY one perpetrator of the crime...they finally combed the entire area including the building and declared it free of all threats...they still have the temple in their possession as it's a crime scene.

i was commenting on the POlice Chief’s statement that this incident was a "domestic type of terrorist act’…i was saying the word means different things depending on who the perpetrator of the crime…it’s ok if you did NOT know what i was talking about!

He was nothing short of a terrorist who took the lives of seven innocent people and terrorized an entire community based on a misguided sense of patriotism. He deserved to die.

i'm NOT contradicting your statement but do you think those criminals will NOT be able to lay their hands on illegal arms?
I think there is a difference between criminals and mentally unstable people who snap and kill people with whatever is at hand. It would not be difficult for a criminal to get hold of weapons, from say the black market, but i doubt that a student like james holmes would have found it easy to collect such a huge cache of weapons without being noticed, if automatic weapons were illegal in the US.

Yea, authorities did categorize it as "Domestic Terrorism".
