Re: Significance of Haq Mehr in a non-islamic country.
I find this an idiotic concept that is more cultural than religious. In my case, it was me sitting in my room, my parents, my fiance etc. sitting outside. I named an amount which I thought was rather reasonable, and I was pressured to lower by my own parents. Apparantly they were afraid that if I asked for a higher amount, then I would be building some kind of gold digging image in my in-laws minds. In the end, I lowered it to an amount that is like pocket money to me, and agreed to a "secret" mehr (I don't even remember now what it was). How *ed up is that. The whole bloody * thing pisses me off. I don't even get the point of it. And what's this that if the woman asks for a divorce, she must pay back the mehr? What the ****.
