Re: Should US Public Schools have Mandatory School Uniforms?
I wore uniforms all the way until university and feel its a good idea. also the entire fashion competition so pervasive in some schools is decreased.
the whole argument about individual expression is bunk, kids can show individual expression in their work.
I mean why dont we have the same debate about cops, soldiers and ppl in other professions who have to wear a uniform complain about individual expression. I mean even docs have to wear scrubs..
That is an interesting concept that kids would show their individuality through their work..I need to add that point.
I too like the idea. Our town is composed of real extremes. There are mostly super-super rich, a couple middle-class families like mine and then a fair number of poor. Its sad to see kindergarten kids wearing Uggs and outfits that would feed a family of 5 for a week and others who are wearing hand-me-downs from salvation army. Having to wear uniforms would smooth things over a bit I think.
Thats exactly my point, is just so much better to give them a sense of being equal to each other instead of "what to wear tomorow...and WHO(name brands) to wear.
Our school districts donot have any uniform policy and I am thinking of trying to find a way where it can become a policy. One thing is High School is where they shoukd start with so much crime , and nangaa pan there.
I wore uniform from kg til college too, the idea behind a uniform is to eliminate class differences, overobsession with fashion, as well as instilling in them a pride in themselve,s their work, their school etc.. even if u weren't in school, if u got caught gettin into trouble and wearing the uniform, the school had every rite to punish you b/c you had their name on you..
Was it public school Sara? I mean did all public schools had the uniform policy?
