Should US be an isolationist?

Phir wohe bat? Man! Try to read me .. What I am telling you is you wont get any gad dam investments if you pull out foreign aid ... You wont be able to control the puppet govt that look after your 'interests' ..... Who brought in stupid China? We are talking about US ... Nobody is saying other countries ARE not dependent on US aid .. My only argument is what I repeated in several threads above .. Would you still ignore it?

You can stop giving charity if you dont depend on the other party ... What you call Charity is in my view bones that are thrown out buy governments ... Turkey?? Does that ring a bell? Its just one case that so openly leaked out ... US has tried to bribe/buy so many other countries .. but thats beside the point ... I may be draging away your topic ..

As far as theory? You are quoting me a professor, ironic innit? :)

Yup ... very ironic .. I wanted to show you two faces of the same person .. much like your?] govt ... But the facts remain .. I just dont have the time to research them for you ....

Azkar, I do not agree that there is a link between flow of capital to US capital markets and aid given directly or indirectly to countries. Buying stocks on the US exchanges requires transparency and not very many poor veneuelans or indians or pakis or turks are putting their life savings in Microsoft.

If you point is that if for some unreal occurance, risk of stability to the US financial system through continuous terrorist attacks for example occurs, would it impact the American economy interms of individual/institutional shareholders taking money out of the capital markets. yes, it is possible. But unlikely. The greatest indication of the strength of this country on the days after sept 11th wasn't the response of the people, or the courage of the rescuers or the resolve of the military. It was the confidence of the investors in the vialbility of the US financial system. A lot of other countries would have buckled and asked for more aid.

I give up ..

You had me at hello :)

No aid

We don't need more aid (loan). We have become used to of taking too much loan while basic amenities are still not in place so i don't see why we should need it again.

No humanitarian support

If you mean humanitarian support as in case of natural disasters then I don't think there is any thing wrong with that but again it's not like one must always expect it from the US or any other country in particular. Humanitarian aid is like a charity and there shouldn't be any compulsion. UN should be involved.

No funds for debt restructuring

what do u mean by FUNDS for RESTRUCTURING? I think debt restructuring means setting a different time period to pay the same amount of loan.

Should the US pull back from all it's commitments around the world.

No aid

[/QUOTE]

Yah, Im all for it. As long as it means ALL commitments around the wolrd not just where the US has economic and political interest. This would help end the $2 billion+ annual military aid to Isreal which is the lifeblood of the occupation there.

All the hue and cry about unilateral action by the US has this board in a tizzy. Should the US pull back from all it's commitments around the world.

No aid

No humanitarian support

No funds for debt restructuring

How would everyone like that? I would be extremely happy.
