Re: Should parents to blamed if their kids marry non-muslims?
Salam Lahori Bhai…
It was nice of you to post a topic that touches many Pakistani youth of marrying age.
I firmly believe that the reason why arranged marriage still exists with pakistanis living in the west is because arranged marriage is a way of parents maintaining control. That way they are able to secure their own future knowing that a girl of their choosing is less likely to kick them out of the house.
The problem with arranged marriage is that if you have parents with a non-existant social network then youve got very little to pick from. The matrimonial websites and other modes of matching do not work … personal experience… plus its a very superficial method.
Personally… my parents keep wanting me to marry one Pakistani gal who im not very fond of (but they are), I on the other hand could potentially be going out with many many American gals (some of whom I am quite attracted to)… And the sad thing is … Pakistani gals are getting screwed in all this.. fewer choices for them is what it means!
