Are Afghan sneaking into Pakistan to create havoc through terrorism here-or it has always been the other way round? And even if some Afghan immigrants are involved in crimes they should be deported on the spot.
Ever since Pakistan gave refuge to war affected Afghanistani our country has severely suffered from drugs, weapons smuggling and now bombings. Religious extremism was not much a problem before 80s (the blame for this is not on Afghans though but they have taken it to new heights).
The thread is about border with India so lets get back to topic.
As long as Kashmir issue exists we cannot afford to have loose/free border with India.

Pakistan would have more to gain from a free border than India I think. There is not THAT much of an issue with Indians entering Pakistan and engaging in unfriendly acts; whereas an open border would allow Kashmiri militants who move from occupied Kashmir to Azad Kashmir to easily reenter Occupied kashmir via Pakistan and then India.
From the point of view of promoting peace between Indians and Pakistanis, an open border would be a great help. I think a problem is that there is a lot of hawkish sentiment in the population at large - free travel could help that abate, such as with cricket diplomacy.

Are you forgetting the series called "jeet lo dil"? and series afterwards? When Indian team was in Pakistan the level of "excitement, hospitality and friendliness" of Pakistan(is) was overwhelming but when Pakistan(is) went to India all these elements were missing. It seemed like Pakistan(is) wanted the "friendship" while India(ns) didn't really care about it.

Are you aware of the role of ISI in drug smuggling, ZIA's role in nurturing the Islamic Extremists and all these suicide bombers are home-grown. But you're right this thread is not about these problems.

Nawaz Sharif's statements aside, I sincerely doubt the actual authorities in both India and Pakistan would go for any such plan...under current circumstances I don't think it's in either country's best interest to allow virtually unrestricted access to people from across the border.
A much more realistic and feasible plan would be to simplify the procedure for getting a visa for travel between India & Pakistan...right now, unless you have connections, the process takes months and is mired in bureaucratic red tape. Also, it would be nice if they opened up transportation between the two countries...the wait list for the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus for example (which runs only once twice a month) is over 10 years long...

Why stop at open borders, why not just merge Pakistan into India? I guess Quaid E Azam fought to temporarily create an independent Pakistan and my forefathers were fools for voting for Pakistan.
On one thread I see Pakistanis mentioned as some Europeans dropped into South Asia, over here its like 'we are all the same' business. In reality most Pakistanis (atleast the Sindhis + Punjabis + Many Urdu Speakers) are essentially Persianized Indians anyways, so sure it makes sense to have a certain kinship with India, however I would go as far to say that borders should not exist.
