Bingo. This was the driving factor behind my parents’ divorce…My mom was the main income provider for our family of 5 while my dad had problems holding down stable employment. She was not only the breadwinner, but the cook, maid & mommy too. My mom’s resentments grew and grew until ultimately it ended their marriage.
Well said. There have been times in my real estate career where I earned in one month the amount equivilant to half of his yearly salary! And it’s all ours, not my income. Because if he had not been at home on those nights and weekends taking care of the kids, I would not be able to show those houses, negotiate the contracts, deal with the inspectors, lenders etc.
I may tease and joke about him being a “baniya” but we share all household responsibilities (including earning and spending) equally. Any decision, financial or otherwise is made together.
