Shoaib called up as Gul cover

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

In this article: BBC SPORT | Cricket | Shoaib to miss first Test in SA
PCB chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf says of Shoaib..“Physically he looks fit”
I guess he being a Dr (I presume a medical doctor), he can gauge somebody’s physically fitness simply by “looking”.
Also, the article says that Akhtar has bowled 21 overs (imazine 21 overs) since being left out of the squad…so his fitness levels must be tip-top.

Anyways, it will be interesting to see how things pan out during the SA series.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

"Maybe Naseem kay t*t*N may pani nahi."

Mushtaq back as coach despite dr sahib firing him and fully fit Shoaib out of the team lets me to believe inzi being the main villian here than Nasim.
Maybe inzi sucked pani out of dr Nasim's tatt*y(s). :)
either way its a shame! I just hope Shoaib does well in this series so nobody can pull this kinda cr*p on him.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

WAS bhai, i was looking at the post above only, my bad…
I’d call up Fazl-e-Akbar instead of Shoaib…lol…lets see what happens in here now.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

It is a fact that his off the field antics do effect Pakistan in a negative way. Do you think that becoming "injured" half way through a match and than either dancing the night away at a disco or jet skiing the next day doesn't impact the team? If he goes through a series without any antics than it will be fine, but will we ever see that day? I hope so but personally don't think so.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

Double standards…Shoaib was not selected because he was deemed unfit, I was also of the same opinion. But, this changes everything…

**Ankle injury puts Gul’s World Cup hopes in **

KARACHI: Pakistan’s medium pacer Umar Gul may be forced out of international cricket for almost three months if fears that he is suffering from an ankle fracture are confirmed following a medical examination in South Africa.

Sources close to the Pakistan team disclosed to this correspondent on Monday that after initial examination, doctors fear that the in-form bowler may have a serious ankle fracture rather than just a sprain and his injury could take several weeks to recover.

If the injury is confirmed, Gul might even miss the all-important World Cup to be held in the Caribbean islands from March 13 to April 28. It would be a major blow for Pakistan as Gul has been their most prolific strike bowler in 2006 and is seen as a key part of their bowling attack.

Gul, who has taken 61 wickets from 14 Tests, has been advised to undergo scans in a Johannesburg hospital on Tuesday (today), the results of which are expected to be available tomorrow.

Sources said that the 24-year-old Gul was carrying the ankle injury when he was included in the touring party late last month on the insistence of Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq who believed that his bowler would get fit in time for the opening Test against South Africa getting underway from January 11.

It was apparently because of this reason that Inzamam fielded Gul in a three-day practice game against Rest of South Africa that concluded in Kimberley on Monday. However, Gul broke down after bowling just three overs on the second day of the warm-up game.

The national team management was forced to ask for a replacement after it was confirmed that Gul’s injury was serious enough to sideline him from international cricket for several weeks.

The management asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to either send fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar or medium pacer Shabbir Ahmed as Gul’s replacement. The national selection committee opted in favour of Shoaib who would join the team ahead of the opening Test.

A PCB official said on Monday that it is yet to be decided whether Gul would stay with the team in South Africa or return home. The official said that Gul would reach Johannesburg with the Pakistan team today where he would undergo scans to check the seriousness of his injury.

At the moment, we have been told that Gul might not be able to play for the next three weeks but the exact position would only be revealed once the doctors see the scan reports,î said the official.

Pakistan are suffering from a series of problem in their lead-up to the Centurion Test. They would also be without top batsman Mohammad Yousuf who is staying home because of his wife’s surgery as well as talented all-rounder Shoaib Malik.

Malik is suffering from an ankle injury is unlikely to take part in the Test series.

The PCB official said that a decision on whether to replace Yousuf or Malik would only be taken once it is confirmed that they are out of the series and also whether the team management wants any more players. Pakistan selected an additional 17th man ñ reserve wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider ñ for the tour of South Africa.

If Umar Gul can go with the team having such a injury then, Shoaib who was short of match fitness deserved better. Sadly, this is once again Inzimam’s ego which is causing all this controversy. If there is someone to be blamed it is Inzimam and the Pcb management who have completly subordinated themselves to their employee (Inzi). Shame, shame.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

Actul article:

Shoaib to miss first Test in SA

Shoaib has not played for Pakistan since September

Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar will not be available for the first Test against South Africa which starts in Centurion on Thursday.
Shoaib has had “problems with his travel schedule”, but will join the team before the second Test.
Shoaib had a two-year ban for taking nandrolone lifted in December after an appeal panel ruled he had never knowingly taken the banned substance.
He was called up on Monday after Umar Gul was ruled out with an ankle injury.
“Shoaib will not be able to leave before the first Test,” said Saleem Altaf, director of cricket operations.
“But he will certainly join the team before the second Test from 19 January.”
Gul hurt his ankle in the three-day warm-up game with The Rest of South Africa and PCB communications director Ehsan Malik said: “The team management sent a request to the selectors to rush a replacement.”
Pakistan are also without batsman Mohammad Yousuf and all-rounder Shoaib Malik for the match at Centurion Park.
Shoaib, 31, has not played for Pakistan since a one-day game against England in September, a month before he and fellow paceman Mohammad Asif returned positive tests.
“Physically he looks fit and I hope he delivers in South Africa,” PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf said of Shoaib. After his appeal was upheld, Shoaib was left out of the 17-man party after selectors felt he lacked match fitness but he has since bowled 21 overs in a first-class match, taking five wickets. The World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) has challenged the decision of the appeal panel and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) is likely to make a ruling within four months.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

so the bottom line is Pakistan will hire the services of Mohammad Sami for the first test :dhimpak:
If Pakistan suffers due because of Sami piethrowing than who will be responsible?

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

I told you guys, its the Curse of Sami... Shoaib cant fly out in time either.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

I still have faith in Sami, and I think a line up of:
(Batting comparison)
1. Hafeez (Bat/Bowl) ---- Langer
2. Farhat (Bat) ----- Hayden
3. Younis ------ Ponting
4. Faisal ------ Hussey
5. Inzi ------- Clark
6. Asim Kamal ------- Symond
7. Akmal ------- Gilchrist
8. Sami ------- Warne
9. Shahid Nazir ------ Brett Lee
10. Danish Kaneria ------ Clarke
11. M. Asif ------ McGrath

Will be a good team to give tough time to SA provided they are lead by a leader like Ponting.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

^ actually I think this line up will be better:

  1. Mohammad Sami (opener)
  2. Mohammed Hafeez (assistant opener)
  3. Imran Farhat (standby opener)
  4. Younis Khan (only if Sami gets out)
  5. , 6., 7.
  6. +*Mohammed Sami (when not bowling)
  7. Mohammed Sami (strike bowler) 10., 11.

Blank spots + excessive players will be decided by conf. call between Inzi and Naseem.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

This is total BS again. PCB had three days and they couldn't arrange a flight from Pakistan to South Africa? I could fly around the world, twice, in that time.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

The whole saga is total crap. they take unfit players with them in the tours cannot send the right players in time...so much bloody politics...I am sick and tired of this $hit

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

Yeah, this is absolute CRAP!!!

We have maybe the worst record in SA and yet we still take injury-hit players and leave out our main strike bowler.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

*sigh!!! Another Shoaib thread,,, and this time some new nonsence contents added,, Wah ! Never a dull minute,,,hehehe ***
***Truly! Pakistanioun ko zara si izzat raas nahi atti ,, aur naa kabhi purda daari kerni aye hai,,,,, Yahan to Awaam aur awaami media sub 'speaker's corner' mai jama ho ker aik dosaray ki dhujian uraatay hain,,, as a qouami khail,,,,,, Shoiab ko waqai ko glamourous kaam talash kerna chaye,,,

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

it has become very obvious that Shoaib's abscence from the first test was purely personal as his relationship with Inzi has certainly taken a downward path. in a recent interview to geo inzi said about shoaib 's chances in 2nd test as ' well the selectors have send him here so we will see if he can be ready for the test'. as if he doesn't want him here. some closed sources from Lahore has mentioned that during the camp in lahore when players were going to the prayers Inzi had a 'too too main main' with shoaib when he saw him with the beer bottle. again i don't believe in rumors but this has been reported as the start of the quarrel b/w these guys. i hope and pray that they go beyond this personal grievences and play for the country.

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

^ thats disappointing stuff man... Inzi hota kaun hai Shoaib ko beer peney se roukne wala? So wat if its a bad influence on the team or jeopardizes Shoaib's full fitness and focus for Pakistan cricket.... Shoaib is better than Sami, Rana and Gul combined even with his 'tun' haalut. If Dhoni can be let off tainted windows in India, why can't we respect our heroes like that. Inzi should know Shoaib is a big celebrity and have different rules for him. And yeah, Shoaib did fire back at Inzi in his interview when he said 'captain's job should be to unite players" and stuff. I say job well done by Shoaib.... must've taught Inzi a lesson. Now lets wait for the Inzi and Shoaib feud ,, it should be fun. I hope Shoaib makes him look bad when he gets back. So what if the team suffers in world cup or it jeapordizes team unity... atleast no other captain will ever attempt to take a panga with a superstar like shoaib on a simple thing like drinking beer in the training camp. After all, its the matter of personal honor/ego for Shoaib, who looked so 'fit' in 20/20 and still was ignored. Shoaib should give more interviews and make Inzi look bad to keep Pakistan on front pages of Cricket Mags and Forums. We as fans should do all things possible to keep bumping this fued discussions rather than the match threads, even on the decisive day of tests. Lets get behind out favorite players... cricket ka kia hai, woh to chalti rahey gi !

Re: Shoaib called up as Gul cover

Its okay for Inzi to discourage Shoaib from drinking beer, but its not acceptable of Inzi for keeping Shoaib out of team for that reason unless he is drunk while on the pitch (bowling).

[/quote]

So what??? A sport like cricket is a TEAM game, if the unity/harmony is disturbed then in no way they can perform to their best.

Again, you are bringing a wrong thing to justify Shoaib's inclusion, the Indian Dhoni incident should be condemned and not something as acceptable.

I am all for including Shoaib but not for the reasons you mentioned above. He has been found fit in domestic cricket after being not selected which exposes team management/Inzi's egoistic nature and lies about his fitness.
