Shoaib Akhtar out of the test series :(

Can Shoaib Akhtar ever stay fit?? I think this guy should be thrown out of the team be told to stay fit. All the big matches…this guy says he is unfit…and I can’t imagine some people here wanted him to be the captain!! :smack:

Extreme is right, We must play Shoaib when he is fit. He has been unlucky with injuries, so what can we do :(. He Has achieved different highets in his short career, Heights of Injuries alongwith heights of success (though not as much as he would have liked to) But a sure shot slection when fully fit. Its true that he is our biggest weapon when WC comes around

Saby bhai remind me when he was last fully fit, I think it was the june Aus series, after that he missed the Morrocco tournament, came back unfit and got hammered by the Kenyans and broke down again during the Australian series, came back and is now again injured. We take him to the world cup and he will be fit against Holland and other minnows and come the big boys he will suddenly get injured again. No thank you, I would rather play a fit Sami, at least you know he will complete his overs.

You fools, he is the only truly world class match winning bowler we have now, with the decline of the W's, and if he goes we'll get licked like we just did against SA. Suits me fine, I tend to bet against Pakistan, but I still hope the guy is ok-he is a HERO and he is the team......without him we would get destroyed......well even more so then now.

Sorry ehsan, for once i don't agree with you. I saw Shoaib demolish the Aussie batting line up on at least three different occasions now (once live at Headingley). I've seen England's best such as Caddick, White and other no-hopers consistently hand over the ashes to Australia.

Sami's a fine prospect, but Shoaib on his day can wipe out a top team in one spell. I think he needs to prove his commitment and fitness like anybody else however and I am sure he will. If not, there are always other alternatives..

The two W's are still bowling fine Mo.

It's up to the new guys to match their standards.

Waqar was on his peak during the early 90’s and when PAK went to play the 92 World Cup everyone was missing him since at that point he was PAK back bone and when PAK lost the first few matches everyone said if Waqar had been in the squad PAK would have won the matches but evantually PAK WON THE 92 WORLD CUP without Waqar. I say PAK can still win the world cup without Shoaib, we have Mohammad Zahid (although he needs a bit of practice and given the chance in TEST I am sure the guy will perform plus we have Sami and Waqar seems to be performing well) so I would say if Waqar could captain the team with his head instead of using his feet PAK have fairly good chances winning the WC :jhanda:

Shoaib is no where close to World Class. Yes his bowling is really good and he definetly talented...but if you wanna be a World Class bowler, you also need to be in shape. This guy never goes through a series without an injury...I mean common...I have never seen such a great and talented player wasting his talent like this. If he stays in shape, and plays every match...he would definetly be Pakistan's most lethal weapon. But I think Sami would do a decent job replacing him.

I agree…we still have the chances of wining the world cup without Shoaib, but if shoaib is there…our chances automaticly increases. Bowling is not the problem right now in the Pakistani team. The problem is the inconsistency of the batting. We need to bring back Saaed in to the team for Saleem Elahi. Faisal Iqbal and Saeed will make a good combination for the opening slots.

decline of W's? I supposed you havent been following the SA series closely. Waqar Younis at times was expensive but he is still a devastating bowler. He is more effective at this first spell and seems to claim the wickets almost at will. You should see how he exploited Gibss and kirsten weakness. The way he boweld Gibs and kirsten and dun forget the deserving plumb in the fourth ODI that was turned down. He seems to have total control of the ball and consistently has been troubling the openers!Waqar younis is an amazing bowler alot better than Sami. Sami is fast but not threatening. He lacks varities..

As far Wasim is concerned I dun have to prove anything. He is the best so far followed by Shoaib(if fit). I totally agree withyer remarks over Akhtar. He is the hero and can wreck any batting line up. Batsmen of an opposing team might wont admit but its a fact, deep inside they are hesitant(afraid?) to face him and that is a hugh psychological jump for Shoaib.

I'm really worried about Saqlain. He is not the same bowler he used to be. He is not at all thretening. I dont understand how he happens to perform well with the ball as well the bat when he plays for Surrey, more money I assume? heh..

Full Story

as far the enigmatic Shoaib Akhtar is concerned, it is time the Pakistan Board Chairman, his advisors particularly Dr Tauseef Razak and the selectors, to realize that the time has come to put to an end the ‘primadonna antics’ of the world’s fastest bowler.

Not for the first time are we hearing and reading about Shoaib pulling out of a test series or One-day match because of some injury or niggling problem or because he needs to be properly taken care off.

Shoaib is not a child, he is a professional cricketer and that too a very well paid one. Perhaps, the Pakistan team has suffered more on count of his antics than gained from the good performances he has put in this year.

The Chairman’s belief that he is Pakistan’s only match-winner appears misplaced because when a player becomes too big for his boots he ceases to be an asset to the team.

The reports about Shoaib’s personal behaviour in Zimbabwe and South Africa are also not very positive and need not be discussed here but if the Board is going to treat him like the “Kohinoor diamond” then it would be better if the PCB kept him in cold storage and only released him on the day of the start of the World Cup.

Mr X, very well said, you are on a role! :k: :k:

Shoaib 100% Fit= The greatest bowler in the World.

And concerning Pakistan team lost its balance after Wasim getting injured, Shoaib had to change his bowling tactics, by opening the bowling with Waqar.

He should be the first replacement no matter what score is to defend.

If it means for him to be fit for WC by skipping test series than its a right decisions, though he should be fined for not staying fit.
