Shikarpur blast at a mosque

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

Yes, of the 12th century.

Btw, with all the ISI bashing, where is IB ? Isn't that the premier intelligence agency for internal affairs.

Also, what serves as FBI (intelligence and policing agency) in Pakistan? FIA ? ISI and IB etc can only abduct and disappear people like CIA, but then there is bhangra over BLA terrorists who just got that treatment. Take your pick.

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

Aah , Just check about RAW , Successful . 95% civilians , No complaint of interference in public affairs

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

I agree with you that IB and other civilian intelligence organizations have become useless over the years, politicians use them for their own political use.

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

As far as interior Sindh is concerned the organizations like ASWJ seem to be gaining ground. In the previous elections the candidate who came second on most seats were of JUI. In recent past we have seen attacks on ISI offices there and now this.

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

No agency gets the money and resources that the ISI takes. In return, they are failing the country every week.

As for Balochistan, there are thousands of innocents who have ISI have kidnapped and tortured to death.

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

Shikarpur, not Sukkur, was called so. The city which gave Sindh writer like Shaikh Ayaz.

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihee raajioon

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

It was most educated and refined town in pre partition period. Minorities, and other sects lived in peace even after partition for a long period of time. Even today no resident of Shikarpur believed in such genocide and killing of innocent people. The outsiders (non-residents of Shikarpur) have bleed this peaceful city.

Even today the superb achaar and mithai (diwan) has no parallel in whole of the country.

Shah Abdul Latif University, Shikarpur

                                                                  **Shikarpur Through History**

Shikarpur once was hunting place Shikargah but due to its geographical and strategic position became a center of trade and commerce, art and architecture, educational and charitable institutions and culture and civilization. It has unique history, neither it is too much old nor too much new. Although difference of opinion over its origin still exists but most of the researchers have agreed that it was established in 1617 A.D by Daudpotas, after a battle with Mahars of Lakhi. Shikarpur remained district of Sindh, in the days when there were only three districts in Sindh, but it lost this status in 1901, when Sukkur was replaced as district. In July 1977 in democratic government of PPP it regained the status of district.
In past, caravans from Central and West Asia through Bolan Pass used to have stoppage at Shikarpur. As a result, exchange of goods and services occurred, which ultimately contributed a lot to the development of city. A branch of Central Bank of Asia existed in Shikarpur as well.
Not only in trade and commerce but in art and architecture, culture, education, fertility and fashion Shikarpur was far ahead of other cities of Sindh. **Due to its Attar industry and beautiful bazars it started to be called as Paris of Sindh. ** **There were many hospitals, schools, charitable institutions, welfare trusts, libraries, printing presses and publication houses. There were many other noticeable places, whose example can rarely be found else where in Sindh. Among such are Dhak (covered) Bazar, which was architectural marvel. it worked like air condition in summer. More over “Shahi Bhag” was the biggest and most beautiful garden of the province with thousands of variety of flowers and the pavilion on the structural lines of Gothic lines of architecture. **

**In British Raj, there were only three colleges in Sindh and one among them was Chela Singh and Setal Das high school Shikarpur. Because of this historical factor, literacy ratio of Shikarpur was higher than other cities. According to one survey there were about 70 graduates in the city of Shikarpur in 1930, whereas in the rest of Sindh there were only 7 graduates. Like wise not only number of public libraries was higher but also private and personal libraries were more than hundred. It proves that many families had literary leanings and the general public kept education in high esteem
**

**After independence slowly and gradually center of education became center of lawlessness, ignorance and tribal disputes. The Paris of Sindh turned into a sad city. Art and Architecture vanished, law and order became a dream and people started migrating in search of peace. **

                                                                      ** *

It is said history repeats itself. With opening of Shikarpur Campus of Shah Abdul Latif University, surely this city of historic significance is once again going to be center of education. * **

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

Shikarpur carnage death toll climbs to 61,
No one from federal government , PM , Army even president from Sindh visited Shikarpur
Even no federal minister .
Mazboot Pakistan ?

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

We send our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families. The terrorists have once again shown their evilness through this act of terror. To attack people during the prayers also proves terrorists willingness to cross all lines in order create panic and fear in the country. We recognize the Pakistani security forces are doing their best to counter the growing threat of terrorism in the country. We stand united with the nation of Pakistan and wish to see peace prevail throughout the country.
We also wish the injured quick and speedy recovery, and sincerely hope the friends and families of the dead find the strength to deal with this tragedy.

That’s interesting, never knew that.

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

I second this. Shikarpur's achar is a MUST have. I never miss it whenever I go back home for a visit. specially Moli and shaljam ka achar

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

Shaljam ka achar? Hmmm that would have to be the specialty of this area?

Re: Shikarpur blast at a mosque

I guess so because thats where I have eaten it a lot. Shaljam/gajar and moli. It has more “Achari soup” in it than dry achar (I dont know how to describe that :smack:)

NOt sure how authentic these recipes are just googled it

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Syed Khurshid Shah on Monday claimed that the blast in Shikarpur was a failure of the intelligence agencies who he said had the prime responsibility to counter terrorist acts.

Initiating the debate to discuss the Shikarpur attack, the opposition leader also questioned the absence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who was present in Karachi on Friday to review the law and order situation in the province.

“It is unfortunate that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was present in Karachi but avoided visiting Shikarpur to meet the families of the victims who lost their loved ones in the blast,” Shah said.

He stated that it was the responsibility of the intelligence agencies to share information with police and law enforcement agencies to counter terrorist activities.

“During the ongoing circumstances, can we say that Pakistan is a nuclear state,” the opposition leader questioned.

He also said that almost all opposition parties have supported the PL-N government to strengthen democracy in the country, but the PM was not present in today’s session to explain the government’s position regarding the terrorist attack.

He suggested the PM should visit Shikarpur as soon as possible to meet the victim’s families who lost their relatives.

Shah also said that the government cannot counter terrorism without improving the intelligence network.

Meanwhile, PML-F MNA Ghous Bux Khan Mahar stated that the provincial and the federal governments had failed to counter the Shikarpur attack, which he said was a question mark on the intelligence agencies performance.

MQM MNA Saman Jafri said that the government had failed to implement the death penalty of Ata-ur-Rehman, the chief of Jandullah – the banned outfit which claimed responsibility for the blast.

The MQM lawmaker also said that the government has refused to acknowledge the presence of ISIS in Pakistan which she claimed distributes pamphlets in different areas of Karachi to kill people.

“The government should also take action against the apologists of militants who are present in our society,” Jafri added.

QWP MNA Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, PPP lawmaker Aftab Shaban Mirani and Molana Amir Zaman also demanded of the government to implement the recommendations of the National Action Plan to counter terrorism.

At least 60 people were killed and dozens of others injured on Friday after a blast inside an imambargah in Shikarpur.

The militant organisation Jundullah, a splinter group of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack.

It was the second major attack on an imambargah in the country since the beginning of 2015; the first being an attack on Rawalpindi’s Imambargah Aun Mohammad Rizvi in the garrison city’s Chatian Hatian area.
