i lived in dhahran camp for 20 years by dad retired recently i left for boarding in 92 and have now graduated from college and am working. saudi was a great place no doubt but you abqaiq guys were always a little weird (j/k!)

Hafeez and Malik are proving to be outstanding players while Faisal is struggling a bit. Sami is coming into his own. In a way it was a good idea to play a tournament with two weak and one strong team, gave the new guys time to settle down and gain confidence.
With the return of Inzi, Saqlain and Shoaib at some future date the future looks rosy.
Miandad should continue with the good work of building up the team. :k:

Taufeeq Umar is a classical example of a player who won't do any good at the bigger levels of the sport. He is very unsure about his strokes. Lacks confidence and is having trouble playing mediocre bowlers. I think he should be sidelined immediately and another youngster should be given a chance while this re-building process still in it's infancy.
I know it sounds harsh but at this level one has to bite the bullet and make the right calls. I hope Aamir Sohail can read this opener. Being out of form is one thing but lack of variety of shots and inability to middle the ball is another.

I agree. Maybe they should try and play Misbah as an opener. Don't know whether that will be feasible. With Razzaq and Younis coming back for the finals who will they drop?

on Taufeeq Umar. Did you guys notice that he has that extra step when he bring the bat up. He sort of picks it up and holds it in a posiiton and THEN plays the shot. It's hard to explain but I really think that extra step takes time away from him - valuable time that he can use to use to decide his stroke.
That extra step in which he positions the bat also leaves gaps between bat and pad and renders him an easier victim to the inswinger. Maybe I'm just bul****ting but that extra step really bothers me. A batsman's stance and pickup of the bat should be as simple as possible.

^ I agree sambs on this extra step theory of Taufeeq. He hasn't played SINGLE proper hook or pull shot (something a left hander should play naturally). He was bowled twice completely missing the line of the ball. He always seems to be late on shots.

precisely.
this extra "pickup and then play shot" helps him really thump the ball on the off side but I didn't see him play a single decent shot on the leg side against India.
I don't think he'll ever be a good hooker if he's as late on shots as he is. In fact the impending arrival of his children almost got cancelled when he went for the pull and instead took the ball on his body a couple of times in the Pak-India match.
