- reminds me of my A-Levels Urdu exam - where the night before the exam, my colleagues who hadn’t read the Umrao Jaan novel decided that they would just watch the movie. So we were watching the movie, and while for me it was a review… for many it was their first encounter with the story… and while we were watching the movie, the guys ended up asking for encore of the songs in the movie “yaar - gaana rewind karr yaar!” - a 3 hour movie took 4.5 hours to watch ![]()

Ok , now I know the pain you had to go through. ![]()
Atleast Rekha was entertaining… ![]()
I had a second year Uni class that had two exams (20% and 40%) and one paper (40%).
The first exam (20%) was written in the first semester and I did pretty well and got an A- so I thought life was grand.
When it came time to write the paper - I totally missed the boat. Not only did I get demerits for handing in the paper late (about four days) - but my thesis failed to respond to the question posed by the professor and I flunked the paper.
I calculated what the best mark I could get in the class was assuming I got an A+ on the final exam and it came to a C+ which was pretty depressing, but because it was too late to drop the course I was resigned to accept the grade.
I wrote the final exam with no hope for the class, but was thrilled when i discovered that my final grade was a B+. All I could think was thank God for the bell curve :)
Re: share your horror stories
mujhey laga we were takin abt jin/bhoot stuff.... most of the stories here r skool realted :(
anyway our practicals were postponded because of the election in 2002; my frnd told me all of them r postponded and i just kept his words. While practical for chem was on schedule.
When they didnt find me at the practical room, they called me and i had moved out of the place so they were actually callin my old number. Then they called my khala's home (emergency contact) and told em abt the situation but the problem was that they (my khala's family) called me by my nick and they didnt know my real name :o.
Some how someone in their family recognized name of my college and thought it might be me. They called me at my village which was 45 mins from college but i was out with frndz playing cric lol.(offcourse i didnt have a cellphone). Finally i got the message from someone that i was suppose to be at practical, i went home... my Mamoo droped me at college on bike.. got a brief lecture. headmaster told this guy to write the lab for me and other one to draw me a pic, coz it was last few mins of practical. I managed to pass the practical.
Abt the other guy who told me practical was postponded.... he went to the college coz he had a cricket game there and ended up doing his chem practical.
Re: share your horror stories
It was the third hourly of an abstract math course, we had n-1 grading in our university (meaning the score of the n-1 best hourly will be counted in the semester work) , I had scored pretty good in the first 2 hourly so the score in the third one was irrelevant for me, a friend had failed the first two so he needed my help. we decided that I will give his paper & he will give mine.., the way it works is that you write your student number on the answering sheet & also write the serial number of your answering sheet in-front of your student-number on a sheet that the invigilator circulates..., sometimes they tally the roll number with your student card sometimes they don’t, my friend was sitting in front of me & we had decided that if the invigilator is diligently verifying student numbers we revert our plan. Now, right before the paper begun my friend was moved into a different exam room, & we couldn’t clearly communicate whether the plan is still on or not. I thought under such circumstances its not feasible to carry out the plan, but perhaps the safest thing for me to do is to not give the paper at all (making some excuse that I m not feeling well or something),in that event irrespective of what my friend does none of us will be in trouble, but I thought my friend would also conclude that it is not reasonable to carry on with the plan so I am being overly paranoid, therefore I continued with the paper, However, my friend in the other room continued with the original plan…, so now we had two answer sheets with the my roll-no, I was caught & the instructor asked me the name of the other person in the scheme. I thought irrespective of whether I tell or not tell the name of my friend I will be punished , if I tell the name of my friend both of us will be punished, However, if I maintained that I have no idea what has happened here & I don’t know who did this in my name, there is a chance both of us will be saved, although If after this we were caught we would be in far greater trouble. My instructor told me that I will be suspended for the semester & not allowed to sit in the final exams.., I was shocked I went home had a discussion with my friend & we had agreed that it is perhaps time to tell the truth , although I was not convinced it will save us, the next day he called me to his room , my friend was standing outside & before I could confess my guilt he told me that based on my past academic record he is sparing me this time , but I have utterly disappointed him & that he was absolutely convinced that I was very much part of what had happened, I maintained my silence & did not tell the truth at that time , I cannot express how much I regret it till this day. I did tell him the truth later but it did not help me regain his respect & understandably so.
Anyhow, he gave me an A+ in that course, I took another course with the same instructor next semester & I got an A+ in that course as well, but I was so ashamed of myself in front of that teacher that I could not request for a letter of recommendation from him.
for the person who invented the bell curve system!!!
Re: share your horror stories
i was supposed to take a required course to graduate which i thought i had received credit for while transferring credits. ofcourse i didnt so i went upto them and showed them 2 course syllabi and had the courses re evaluated. they sent me a letter giving me credit for some other course which at the time i didnt know what course it was.
so i went to a woman in the business dept asking her if this class is sufficient for the requirement. she said yes. in the middle of my last semester, after i had registered to graduate, i got a letter saying im missing a course. ofcourse me being me, i went to the business dept and pretty much raised hell in there and ran from office to office in different buildings to get approval. something that took my dean 2 months and she was unable to do cuz she was lazy, i ran around and did it in 2 days. i graduated on time :)
lesson: dont leave things like this for the last minute.
