Canada, we were accepting south african doctors qualifications at one point so a lot of doctors migrated here and then brought over their families. My childhood was in Tanzania and Zambia.

Have I been to San Francisco? Oh only about a hundred times. :hehe: It is one of my favorite cities, so beautiful and lively. you should definitely check it out.

Just not in building but in sciences, art, literature, way of life etc. The modern democracy is based on Greek model, senates, magistrates, academies..etc. Socrates is the father of new western civilisation. Even atomic theory was initialled proposed by Greek Philosophers. Socrates even proposed women should work and exercise.

I am just giving credit where it is due. Yes I am aware that the modern democracy is based on the Greek model but it was hardly a ground breaking idea that the Greeks or Romans invented. My point was simple, the civilizations before were also quite advanced and a lot of things have been borrowed and then expanded from there. That doesn't mean I am downplaying Greek's contribution but remember history is written by victors thus always biased.

SF, one of my fav cities too. But more because of its culture and diversity and its trance to engage and embrace everyone. I’m a hippie for a reason

Childhood was Insane, went to school with the presidents boys...Godfrey Nyerere was so naughty. Our Canadian teacher would make him kneel down in front of the class. His older brother Charles has become an amazing leader.

Lucky! I’m on the east coast and I haven’t been here long enough to make it out to the west coast nearly enough. I did have the very unfortunate experience of having to go to Las Vegas for work. I’m not sure if it was where I was staying specifically or the time of year I had to go but I found it to be an absolutely miserable smoke-filled place. The only things that I found really arresting were all the glass sculptures in the Bellagio. This was the ceiling:
And this was the check in counter. The balloons in the back are glass!
Anyway I’d love to see any of your San Fran photos!

There is always a reason for being victors though. For a philosophy and a system to be valid and relevant and thriving even after 3000 years is amazing. Socrates, Aristotle,Plato, Pythagoras were unbelievable. A mere book brought over to Europe changed the course of humanity. Indus, Egyptian, Inca civilisations have not really effected our current lives but the greek philosophy has.

That is exactly what I said about Las Vegas. No matter where you go, it smells like smoke, I honestly do not see the appeal. My favorite part was little Italy in the Venetian. We arrived in LV at 1 am and then headed down to the Venetian at 4am yet it felt like day time inside. Due to the painted ceiling, it really messed with our mind. :hehe: Hmmm let me see if I can find any photos of SF for you.

Umm who stole lands from millions, killed off the natives, had slavery for a couple of centuries and didn't give women rights until the last century? And my dear uncle do you have any idea about how these cures came about? The inhumane treatments of blacks and natives, the experiments that were done on them? Do HeLa cells ring a bell? Tuskegee study? Please do read on them.
