It was during the time of Zia when alcohol was prohibited.It is still served in the Army mess.Elite of pakistan always served alcoholic drinks in their parties and it is the same case now.Even the poor class of pakistan drinks you can find stories in our newspapers in which people die after having"kachi sharab"
So it basically depends on your beliefs.In islam it is not allowed so majority of the muslims dont drink but the ban of alcohol has surely prevented many from going into alcoholism.
