Agreed. I think his last ten will be following
Lara
Ponting
Tendulkar
Macgrath
Akram
Murali
Inzi
Ambarose
Other 2 could be 2 of following
Javed
VVS
Mark Taylor
Imran
Border
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
Inzi will likely not figure in his top 10, but VVS might. Also, I am surprised at no mention of Salim Malik.... perhaps Warne has forgotten Malik's 237 against the Aussies in 1994?
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
I bite doesnt make a meal.
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
list is out...
10 Ian Healy
9 Mark Taylor
8 Ricky Ponting
7 Muttiah Muralitharan
6 Wasim Akram
5 Glenn McGrath
4 Allan Border
3 Curtly Ambrose
2 Brian Lara
1 Sachin Tendulkar
I am surprised to not see Inzi.It may be because of his bad record in AUS.
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
Underscores Akram's legend.
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
c'mon atleast he placed him in the top 10 .

I am surprised that Ponting is only 8th. If I had to come up with a top 10 from Warne's list of 50 (without bringing in any new names), it would include (in order of ranking) Lara, Ponting, Tendulkar, Wasim, Murali, Ambrose, McGrath, Walsh, Waugh and Waqar.
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
Considering this list was of the players he played against, I am surprised that name of Malik and VVS is missing. These 2 have had extraordinary success against him.
I also think Azhar and Inzi should have been their in his.May not be in top 10 but somewhere in the list.
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
a sorry list....
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
Agree, Steve Waugh, one of the greatest all round cricketers, in terms of batting, captaincy, mental strength and bowling is at 26th, while Allan Border is at number 4.
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
Yes I don't quite agree with Warne's top ten, a sorry list full of Australian bias. Inzi should have been in his list of 50 but then his poor record in Australia, poor personality and his poor running probably counted against him. Don't get me wrong. Inzi was a very good batsman but we Pakistanis probably big him up too much. Inzi never had quite the same aura as Lara and Tendulkar (and those two never had the same aura as Viv Richards). I for one have always placed Miandad ahead of Inzi and rate the former as Pakistan's greatest batsman ever.
My top ten (from Warne's era) would be
1-Tendulkar
2-Lara
3-Murali (700 wkts in tests and 455 in ODIs already)
4-Ponting
5-Wasim
6-McGrath
7-Steve Waugh
8-Curtly Ambrose
9-Waqar
10-Walsh
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
I mean Lehmann is there but not Inzi. Who was Lehmann btw? What were his cricketing achievements? Lehmann was just lucky to be a part of Australia's world-cup winning sides of 1999 and 2003 but what was his own contribution?
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
He is an ill-mannered cricketer...
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
Waqar has a pants record against the Aussies. Its a personal list and we have to accept it. It is in no way official, just SKW's POV.

You missed Warne. Waqar shouldnot be in this list. But then it is your personal list. ;)
Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
My list is what should have been Warne’s top ten IMO. Warne’s name would surely be in the top ten list of greatest players of his era (infact any era). I would drop Walsh in favour of Waqar then.
Waqar has a better record than Walsh who started off as an average bowler in the mid-80s but improved his bowling by a mile in the mid-late 90s. Walsh never was as destructive a bowler (at any stage of his career) as Waqar was in his prime and the former owed his success partly to the pressure applied by Ambrose from the other end (cf. McGrath)
Waqar has a better record in terms of bowling average and SR than Walsh in both forms of the game. A SR of just 43.49 and 30.52 in tests and ODIs respectively is exceptional
Waqar

Re: Shane Warne, My top 50 greatest cricketers
although i don’t agree with the full list, I agree with the top three (perhaps Lara and Tendulkar equally first), and especially putting Ambrose as the top bowler. What a legend he was.
just watch this video

Totally agree.
Inzi didn't play many so called 'wining innings' against the top side in the World. Correct me if he did.
Also you are 10000000000000000000% right - Inzi was a very good batsman but Pakistani fans big him too much.
Do you regard Javed as the greatest Pakistani batsman? If so than you are correct again or do you regard him as the greatest the game of cricket has produced?

Oh absolutely, I regard Miandad as the greatest Pakistani batsman ever and the second greatest batsman of his generation after Viv Richards (Those were the only two batsmen among their contemporaries that averaged 50+ in tests and 40+ in ODIs)
Some Pakistanis keep mentioning Inzi's match-winning innings in the semi-final and final of WC 1992 but what they forget is Inzi was a new-comer then and there was no real pressure on him to deliver. Pressure is always on the senior batsmen in the side and Miandad duly amassed 437 runs with 6 fifties in games in that tournament. Infact Miandad played his part in the 1987 WC semi-final as well, stroking a fighting 70 against Australia when we had our backs to the wall. Had Imran not wrongly been given out by Dickie, I believe we would have beaten Australia as both Imran and Miandad were going along so well at that stage (cf 1992 WC Final)
The fact is Inzi never really performed in any world cup (apart from his 80 odd against Australia in 1999 WC pool game which we won by ten runs only to lose shambolically in the final) or played many career-defining innings against top sides of his time (namely Australia and South Africa) in tests, a fact which sets Miandad apart from other Pakistani batsmen. Gavaskar and Border were great test batsmen too but they had modest stats in the limited overs format.
Miandad has played many historic innings - his back to back hundreds in the Caribbean in 1988, his 280* against India in 1983, his 260 against England at the Oval in 1987, his 271 against Hadlee and co. in New Zealand in 1989 and ofcourse his quite sensational Sharjah knock in 1986 are some of his great knocks that I will always remember
And no one outside Pakistan rates Inzi very highly among his contemporaries. The talk is all about Lara and Tendulkar and more lately Ponting.
Botham (like Warne now) in his autobiography rates Miandad (the other Pakistani being Qadir, Imran Khan should also have been there but we all know why Botham ignored him!) very highly and includes him among the best 11 or 12 players of his generation. Viv Richards once said, "if I had to ask someone to bat for my life it would be Javed"
