Midnight's children was an excellent read.Initial part of the story is against the backdrop of Kashmir then moving along to other parts of India.
Satanic Verses...i think did spoil his image as a great writer.He has severly criticized Islam , albeit sarcastically.
Shame is a good read too.
well west will appreciate everything and everyone who is willing to go against / write against islam, no matter it is based on facts / fiction. they are not really concerned with that. all they want is someone, preferably a muslim, to comeout and denounce muslims, their ways of living, their traditions and cultures and wallah, you'll become the darling of the west. i'm surprised to see that people, mostly muslims, are more scared of west's wrath than fear of Allah. when you have people like these, howcan you expect them to follow and portrait true meanings and spirit of islam. some are willing to give away everything [from religion-2-self-respect] just to become acceptable to westerners. such people in my view are already out of the circle of islam and they should stop using islamic names and everything else related to islam.
