Shame, Shame - India rewards Burma for democracy crackdown with $100 million

Re: Shame, Shame - India rewards Burma for democracy crackdown with $100 million

Sanctions and complete isolation never worked and there are a number of examples:

  1. North Korea - they simply got what they need by getting whatever they need from China; USA simply lost a lot of time by taking a rigid isolation stand which provided time for the N.Korean regime to buy nuclear technology from Pakistan and then USA had to come to the table and make deals anyway.

  2. Iraq - after years of sanctions and isolation all that happened was Saddam Hussein bought whatever he wanted from Russia, France and Germany. An incensed USA attacked and everyone knows the results which are still unfolding

  3. Iran - similar story unfolding

So why should India, the largest and greatest democracy in the world ever, with one of the most balanced development agenda, shirk from WORKING with Burma/Myanmar with whom we share so many religious, cultural and historical ties?

Yes we will encourage democracy and whatever credibility we build with Myanmar through these development programs will only enhance the impact of such encouragement.

So before criticising our action please consider these and other obvious facts and you will realize this is a courageous stand that India is taking by not simply jumping at the whim and fancy of a unipolar director in Washington DC.
