Re: Shahid Javed Burki, again, right on the ball… Excellent article.
It may take two to tango, but it will need three to dance in case of Pakistan. We need Military, Politikos, and above all our people to come together and run the country.
Don’t take me wrong. Pakistani people know what they want to do and what they expect. Haven’t you guys seen the reaction in the aftermath of Earthquake? Pakistani people didn’t wait for military or politicians. They loaded up trucks and set out to help the needy.
What Pakistanis want is a political leader with strong military background and a home grown “go get them” attitude. They don’t want wimpy-@rse civilians a la BB, or NS. They have always wanted men of actions to rule the country. They thought Bhatoo was the one. It turned out that Bhatoo action was more along the line of killing his opponents.
Unfortunately our retired generals are so sick and tired after the retirement that they don’t want to join political scene. I guess they have had it during their service. So what we get is 3rd class lefties like Tikka Khan, or this all-made-up but nowhere to go Majid Malik etc.
That is why, Ayub, Zia, and Musharraf have ruled the country without much trouble. Simply we don’t have politicians who can build consensus among different power groups and thus rule the country.
