Anyway heres wat I think.

I've never been to Pakistan but to me it seems a scary place... the way everyone and anyones at each others throat. You get that in the Ghetto too but not like in Pakistan.

That country is seriously messed up, I dont care about politics like some of my friends their relly into it like...

I jus want it to be a happy country which my friends tell me it can be... someone has to get everyone together in that country. I dont care who does it or how so long as they dont kill many people I just want Pakistan to be a safe place thats all.

When you kill one person you just make it like a vendetta, an thats not gonna do nobody no good.

I know I havent got a clue really but thats jus the way it looks to me... seriously Pakistan needs something to cheer up. :)

I'm happy I made it out of Pakistan in time, hopefully all Christians and Hindus will do the same. Pakistan is not a place for minorities.

DawnNews reported that a pamphlet was dropped at Bhatti’s house in which the Taliban claimed responsibility.

So I guess its a reaction.

No intention to defend Taliban, but when was last time they were pro blasphemy law? (I don’t recall a statement in this regard)

The assassination of Salmaan Taseer saw not only the death of a man but also represented for me the death of hope in Pakistan. I did not mourn Taseer’s death. I did not know the man. But I mourned what he represented — the death of liberal Pakistan. The governor’s murder reminded us how far the extremist cancer has spread in our society. A cancer in which I saw colleagues and friends on Facebook celebrate his murder. A man murdered for standing up for the most vulnerable in our society — a Christian woman accused of blasphemy. He committed no crime. Instead, he questioned the validity of a man-made law — a law created by the British — that was being used as a tool of repression.

In death, the governor was shunned, unlike his killer, who was praised, garlanded and lionised for shooting Taseer in the back. Mumtaz Qadri became a hero overnight. But Qadri is not just a man — he’s a mindset, as eloquently put by Fifi Haroon. Fascism with an Islamic face is no longer a political or an economic problem in Pakistan, it’s now become a cultural issue. Extremism permeates all strata and socio-economic groups within society. Violent extremists may still make up a minority but extremism now enjoys popular support. As for the dwindling moderates and liberals, they are scared.

Pakistan does not require a secret police, we are in the process of turning upon ourselves. But then what do you expect when your military/intelligence nexus — and their jihadi proxies — have used religious bigotry as a tool of both foreign and domestic policy. It is ironic that the one institution that was designed to protect the idea of Pakistan is the catalyst for its cannibalisation. Christians, Ahmadis, Shias and Barelvis have all been attacked in the past year. Who will be next? Groups once funded and supported by the state have carried out many of these attacks. And many jihadi groups still remain in cahoots with the agencies.

So as I leave Pakistan, I leave her with a sense of melancholy. Personally, for all my early wide-eyed excitement and love for the country and its people, Pakistan has made me cynical, disillusioned and bitter over time. I came here with high hopes, adopting the country, its people and the language. I did find redemption here — but no longer.

If there are small graces it is atleast that this time round we havent yet heard the lame justifications/deflections from before. It isnt being painted as an employee with a grudge because maybe he wasnt respected. It isnt a class struggle between the fat elite rich and the oppressed poor. It isnt being contextualized in terms of Bhatti’s lifestyle. Atleast not yet. The worst on this thread and that I’ve seen generally is that this is a conspiracy to defame Pakistan. Well, atleast even they acknowledge that this shames us.

And I suppose there is something to be said for the fact that the killers were not apprehended. We are spared the sight of mullay, lawyers and pseudo-mullay garlanding the assassins for yet another act of protection of the namoos.

I think its pretty clear what their position would be on this.

The four militants left pamphlets saying that the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (Pakistani Taliban - TTP) and the Fidayan-e-al-Qaeda had killed Bhatti, who was the only Christian in the cabinet, because of his opposition to a harsh blasphemy law that imposes the death penalty on those considered to have insulted Islam.

TTP spokesperson Ehsanullah Ahsan called media organizations to claim responsibility for the assasination.

Pretty pro-blasphemy law. Heres a quote from a TTP commander on the Taseer killing.

Taseer’s assassination seemed almost inevitable. A Taliban commander in South Waziristan told NEWSWEEK that the governor would have been assassinated even if he had not been shot by Qadri, a newly assigned member of his own security detail.” After Taseer [supported] a woman guilty of using bad words for Prophet Muhammad and blasphemy, Taseer was going to be killed anyway, very soon,” said the official, who uses the nickname Abu-Jihad. And he lauded Qadri: “The guard who killed Taseer should try to escape after shooting [him] to Taliban territory, and we would love to kiss his holy hands [and] gun trigger finger.”

Apparently he was visiting his mom's place and he always asked his guards not to accompany him whenever he is visiting mom. Seems like attackers knew that. Must be scouting him for a while. - God knows better....

Blasphemy issue was sleeping... no one including this minister was talking about it... it is out of the blue he was killed and just to show how insecure the minorities are there in Pakistan.. .

According to Jang News he never took guards when he went to meet his mother.
