My parents didn't have a problem with these classes either (gr.5,6,7,8,9) Actually I remember my mom coming to one of them. LOL.. it was the female reproductive class day. I guess she figured it was easier for me to be 'taught' about this stuff in school so she wouldn't have to think about it. But with my kids I hope to inform them of some stuff atleast when they're ready.

i never went thru this whole "sex education" western propaganda. I learnt about sex education the pure pakistani way - watching a rabbit doggystyling another rabbit.

Hmm. Well. I think it's better to not sign the form because I think YOU should tell them yourself and talk about it with them. I mean, kids will do nasty stuff whether they know about it or not know about it. I got to know the WHOLE details when I was 21 hahaha and I'm 23 now. I was not shocked and neither curious. But I was grown up in Pak and KSA so I was different. I mean it's better that you start telling your kids about things that they will be experiencing later on so that they're not shocked. If you do want to sign the form then let them know how it goes in Islam so that they don't do anything wrong.

I think desi kids are different and they need more time to mature and get to know about these things. I'd rather talk to my kids about it myself then let others tell them all the stuff. It's their fault that desi parents don't talk to their kids in detail about this stuff but parents should. Baaki it's up to you.

When I was 13 yrs old in year 8 we did Sex Education and they showed us ‘porn videos’, they were not animated but of real people, the first clip was of a man about 30 years old who gets out of the shower naked and masturbates till he ejaculates all over his hand, then they showed a woman of about the same age masturbating until orgasm and then they showed a clip of them both having sex in missionary position. We were also shown a rather graphic video of a woman giving birth. In all the clips we were shown everything down to the littlest detail, which served no purpose but left us extremely horny and it was awkward when we boys had to get up and walk back to our seats with all the girls watching.

Other than that it was very relevant, informative and useful, we were taught about contraception, protection, menstruation, bras, wet dreams, pregnancy, abortion, age of consent, sex laws, HIV, STD and how a baby is formed from fertilisation of the egg by the sperm till birth.

This was in PSHE or Tutorial as they called it back then, we did Sex Education again in Biology in year 10 but much to my disappointment we only got shown animated videos to explain how good and healthy masturbation is.

they gave life sized plastic male genitalia to groups of 3-4 boys and girls and told them to put condoms on them.

We didn't get that bit, our dear old teacher demonstrated to us by putting a rubber jonny on an old Sure roll on, she was like the most unsexual thing in the whole school and they chose her, we was shocked and amused at the same time.

I've just recieved a letter from the school saying that the kids are to be taught sex ed soon. And if you preffered not to have your child take part in this class you need to give a reason. I think they are too young at 10 years old. What do you think? What would you do for the best?

At age 10 the schools don't really give them all the details they do keep it proper to their age. I went through the whole american school system and my parents were okay with those classes.

I think in 4th grade we did a sex education thing also but basically they seperated the girls and boys, the girls talked about mentration and changes in our body and how to deal with periods and things. I don't know what the boys did lol probably about wet dreams and whatnot.

Don't worry, at age 10 i doubt they are gonna show them porno or something.

You can ask the teacher if you want to know for sure, but I think these classes were helpful, better then having to ask embarrassing questions later or look it up on the internet or something.
