I don’t get many Deja Vu experiences and they few that I’ve had, MashaAllah, were through dreams that came true…and even that does not happen often.
But that does not surprise me. In a hadith the Prophet SAWS said that as we get closer to qiyamah, the believer will see dreams that come true. And in yet another hadith it is said that true dreams are from Allah. If you receive a true dream then that means Allah has willed you to receive some knowledge about the ghaib. This does not mean that there is some power or ability within you that which brings about these experiences. So, you don’t credit it yourself. It’s from Allah and He grants to whomever He wills.
And there is another hadith Qudsi which states that when the believer draws close to Allah, then Allah becomes the sight with he sees, and the hearing with which he hears, the hand with which he seizes, and the foot with which he walks.
There was a battle that took place and Hazrat Umar (RA) was not participating in it. But with waking eyes he saw a vision of the battle and he called out a beneficial instruction to a man named Saariyah. And Saariyah was able to hear Hazrat Umar’s voice from miles and miles away during the battle. And it was Allah who gave this knowledge to both men.
In a Hamza Yusuf lecture, it was mentioned that there was a prominent Islamic figure (do not recall the name) but he was able to smell sins. And each sin had its own distinct smell. One day a man was going to enter the masjid (I think?) and this prominent figure expressed disapproval and mentioned the sin that was committed by the man…because he could smell it.
Again, knowledge of the ghaib belongs to Allah alone. But Allah ki marzi as to whom he wants to bestow glimpses of this knowledge upon. The rooh is not something that is stagnant…it can grow. Your rooh becomes stronger when you do your ibadat with regularity along with doing good deeds and minding your tongue and guarding your eyes…and this can…with the izn of Allah…lead to one to having spiritual experiences. And you can find references for this in the stories of the Awliya.
Now let’s backtrack to what I meant that these experiences can make iman stronger. I do understand your point that it can lead one to having more questions…especially those that deal with the “how” or “mechanism” behind such experiences. But at the same time, I feel ( and it’s just my opinion) that they reinforce that there’s something deeper to our existence…that there’s a power that is out there…that has knowledge of what will happen…and has imparted bits and pieces of it to us…and then that things won’t just end …when we cease to exist.
When you stop believing in actions and their consequences and start subscribing to superstitions, ton totka etc you will not have to wait for qiyyamat as you will create a society which might be worse than hell. As per religion this activity and claims would be classified as bidaat, kufr and shirk. Here I can predict the future, I see a motivated, hard working person with a great attitude , I can predict he will be successful.
