Saleem Elahi has failed to take his chance unfortunately and unless Zimbabwe get a decent 2nd innings total, he might not get another chance. Has anybody watched this series on tv? How did he play in your opinion?
[/QUOTE]

well saleem Elahi is a player of limited qualities on Pakistani pitches. And on overseas pitches, well Allah rehem karay bechaaray per.....
He needs to improve a lot !

Thanks Saby, so on what basis was he picked by the selectors for this series? I am assuming that they must have seen him play a few times?

I must say that the spell shoaib bolwed after tea to Grant Flower , was probably one of his quickest and most destructive spells. The wicket was placid, Batsmen were set and shoaib himself was very ineffective and lethargic. But they way he turned things on....

In one over he bowled two toe-crushers that brought Flower on ground, 2 dlieveries that were directed on his body.... and one whisting past his outside edge..

and in next over he bowled one bouncer from round the wicket straight on his helmet and then slipped past one quick deleivery to bowl him out...
It was a fiery spell and at that pace , he certianlyis the most fearsome bowler in world cricket right now!
The second most aggressive bowler after Shoab i think is gillespie coz he can bowl batsman out too, unlike Mcgrath, who is a silent killer!

well Xtreme, he was picked on the insistence of Pybus wh must have thought he is suitable for Pakistan's troublesome opening spot! Maybe he will realize that it was his mistake and Saeed is the best bet to do that for PAkistan!

Youhana and Kamran has put Pakistan in charge. Both have played great. Hats off to them.

Pakistan Poised For Win

**Pakistan are on course for a 2-0 series win despite being made to work hard in the field at Queens Sports Club. **

Home skipper Alistair Campbell and Grant Flower kept them at bay for 40 overs as they shared a stand of 88.

But the tourists ended the day on top with spinner Saqlain Mushtaq having Hamilton Masakadza caught off the final ball to leave them needing only five more wickets for victory.

Andy Flower was 13 not out at the close, but it will take a major innings from him to give Zimbabwe any hope of avoiding defeat.

**Pakistan batsman Yousuf Youhana made 159 earlier in the day as they achieved a 225-run first innings lead.

He hit 21 boundaries before falling to left-arm spinner Ray Price, who finished with four for 116.

There was also a maiden Test half-century for wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal, who contributed 56 to a partnership of 121. **

Zimbabwe needed a solid start in reply but Dion Ebrahim made only seven before he was lbw to Waqar Younis.

The Pakistan skipper struck again in his next over when Mark Vermeulen fell in similar fashion after hitting five fours in his 26.

Campbell and Grant Flower were in defiant mood, however, and capitalised on some wayward bowling by paceman Shoaib Akhtar, whose first six overs cost 53 runs.

He proved more a handful when he returned to the attack later on and struck a vital blow when he bowled Flower off his pads for 43.

Zimbabwe’s hopes faded further when Campbell’s vigil came to an end when Mohammad Sami found a way through his defence after making 62 in three and a half hours at the crease.

sure, will do it tonight when the news is on.

wow,
Waqar leading the way, setting standards for the other bowlers and then the other bolwers replying so great, simply one of better Pakistan Sides now :k: …
I m really amazed how waqar is bowling in this match,
so much economical, though he didnt get much wickets in the First Innings, but his spell was great..
and same thing in the second Inning , he started the destruction, when Shoaib was wayward, then Shobib coming back fiercly so did Sami and Saqlain..
Hats off for all of them

I am not sure about the "better" part. They played well, but do remember the quality of opposition. Zimbabwe is not exactly amongst the top teams in cricket. In any case, it is good Pakistan is gonna beat them. Good for team morale. And also good that our bowling is firing on all cylinders. But lets not fool ourselves and consider that because we beat Zimbabwe we have suddenly reversed the horrible nightmare of the recent Australian series.

In my view, playing teams like Bangladesh and Zimbabwe is kinda counter-beneficial. If you defeat them, it is never a big deal and was always expected. If you get beaten, that is a disaster for the team morale. Playing Zimbabwe might be deemed a wise move, however, if the playing conditions in this African nation are similar to those in South Africa. Or else, worse case is that no one else was available to play us, anyway.

The real test will be in South Africa, against all the top class teams. I am not convinced that the present eleven players playing for Pakistan right now, represent the "best possible eleven" at this point. I sincerely believe our selectors have messed up, and if they don't correct these mistakes before the world cup, then our chances of complete success (lifting the cup) might be severely limited.

I agree with Faisal, beating Zimbabwe isn't a big deal.
While our bowling might be the best in the world, our batting is still below average. Even against Zimbabwe some of our batsman struggled.
Our batsman should have batted the same way against Zimbabwe as how Australia bats against Quality bowling attacks.
Even a 400 wasn't good enough, and that too was because of Youhana, our top order failed.
I am extrememly surprised to not see Faisal Iqbal's name in the lineup, I thought he would have defintely replaced Saleem Elahi in 2nd test.
He might sent to open with Taufeeq Umar.

Yeah beating Zimbabve isnt that big of a deal. Our batting should have been better. This was the perfect opportunity for a person like Saleem Elahi to his place in the team, but he failed miserbaly aginst the weak bowling attack of Zimbabve. He shouldn't be in the squad for the tour of South Africa.

I cant understand some guppies logic…

I agree Zimbabwe is not a great team But all tht counts is how we play and Pakistani team is trying to build its confidence ahead of South African tour and worldcup. Only convinving wins would have done that and so far they have won convincingly!

** I also agree our batting line up is still just about average** But keep in mind that they need to settle down too, Inzimam and youhana our mkaing come back and taufeeq is still cementing his place. Captain and coach were wrong playing Elahi in this match. He shouldnt be playing. Faisal should have been given the chance, Khair. all is well that ends welll. I hope they realize thier wrong selections and do it right in south africa
Well played Pakistan :k:

P.S Umair, you might not have been seeing the match and the pitch is totally on the slow side and its not easy to play shots on it and if you like hayden sort of stuff from pakistani. Well When Austrial played in sharjah in that forgettable second test, they scored 310 in thier inngs at a snail rate too. So playing aggressive stuff depends on the wicket. Taufeeq and Inzi played aggressively in te first match where ball was coming but not in this match! I hope you get the point
