Buckminster discovered the third allotrope of Carbon, previously thought that carbon as an element can only exist as graphite or diamond C60, was discovered it assumes the shape of a microscopic soccer ball … And it is also called Bucky balls … Later other forms of fullerenes were developed into tube shapes called Bucky tubes … Possible nano technology applications exist for fullerenes because carbon conducts electricity as it is a semi-conductor and the tubes can be made literally two or three bonds in cross-section.
