May be its a gender thing ("Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus").
We were discussing this in one of our weekend dinner parties a few weeks ago, and pretty much no guy had any problem with this, assuming this actually helps reduce the security lines at the airports, improves security and avoids uncomfortable pat downs and "remove your shoes" kinda time-wasters.
