we are attracted towards what looks good
Even if one claims that inner beauty matters,
outter beauty still means something.

I mean, if you see a really fat person, do you
feel attractive towards them? You dont
know about their personality, all you can see
is the physical being. And if the physical
appearence is not good, you won't talk to them.
and if you don't talk to them, you will never
find out how nice they may be from inside.

I am not saying that this is the right thing
but we can't do anything about it. It a VIRUS
we all have :)

Hey guys...

You know what ticks me off... its when some Pakistanis BOAST with pride how theyve gotten in situations where people have confused them for looking Italian or Spanish.

A few people here are so full of themselves. I wont mention any names!!!

see I told you guys this is a complex topic.

I think deep down including my self we communicate with eath other over this medium but human nature comes in when we want to see what we all look like. Because we have all probably conjured up lots of pre-conceptions about each other. Hav'nt been here so I don't have that many! - But I have a few!!!

why should it be flattering to be called any other nationality than our own? i mean just to be called a good looking pakistani or good looking indian should do the job, why look for firangi identity?

perhaps lack of pride in our roots, and it also may explain why 'fairness' is put on a pedestal. we cannot justify it by saying its because we dont have it and white folks also like the 'tanned' looks. 'cause unlike us (i dont meant to generalize here), they do not scoff and look down upon their white-ness while admiring tan.

Its sort of a global phenomenon isn't it? Almost every type of person, regardless of their ethnicity, that I've spoken too, tells me that in their culture/society, lighter skin is preferred to darker. People seem to find lighter skin more attractive than darker skin. Why?

1) Here is the "anti-imperialist" in me speaking - I think it may be the years of colonial rule, taking its toll on the psyche of people residing in the South. They've developed a severe inferiority complex. I don't think they've fully recovered. We still dream of the past, the glorious days (ie pre-imperialism), rather than moving on. After years of being told we were inferior, we've just started to believe it. Not only are we inferior in our intellect, our laws, our society, but also our beauty.

2) Another reasons is the media. Beauty has been portrayed as 'lighter skinned'. If there were more dark skinned fashion models, things may be different. If the glossy cover pages of magazines, all over the world (including Pakistan) showed pictures of beautiful dark women and men, rather than lighter skinned ones, we may not suffer from such discriminatory feelings. This also is an extension of number 1.

3) Another factor is the simple fact that many people are attracted to things which are exotic or different. So darker skinned people may find lighter skin more attractive and vice versa.

However corny it may sound, you gotta learn to love yourself for who you are. I think this can be very difficult, especially when society is telling you who you should be.

..just because someone is thought of as a different nationality..dat doesn't mean their being boastful if they tell someone that this has happened to them.

For once in MY life...I would love to be thought of as a Pakistani instead of a gori or an Arab

Racist joke:

When God was creating Man He asked the angels to put 3 batches of Man-dough in the oven (use your imagination).

The first batch was taken out too early and were hence Kacchay. These people became known as white people.

First of all this is to NADIA21... Youre a semi-masri so you dont count. I really do hope that youre mistaken for a Jew... oops did i say Jew i meant Italian for your sake.

As for the hotshot "i wish someone would call me a Pakistani!!" Hinna....all i gotta say to ya is that youll be surprised how often people arent surprised with where youre from...

In fact seeing a blonde Pakistani doesnt surprise me cause ive seen them too... and no they dont originate from Northern Pakistan. I guess Hinna expects all pakistani girls to be fat with teeny moustaches and Pakistani guys to be thin, wearin glasses, and oily hair combed to the side. Well Hinna youre outta touch... I know I know i puttin words into your mouth!!!

Finally, i said i dont think its right for people to BOAST (now whyd i capitalize that word) how theyve been confused. Its all right to relate to an episode of how they were confused but ot Boast.

Its nice to see that you havent taken me for serious. I know alot about egyptians cause ive been to Egypt and for those pakistanis that dont know... Masri is Arabic for egyptian (I hope you knew that Nadia).

As for am I a Rascist... you bet ya... although the term rascist is incorrect because i dont really have a black-white-yellow bias. If you were the slightest bit religious Nadia youd know that God doesnt like the Jews. I cant say i care much about Indians either, despite the fact that we are the same race.

In fact if i dont care about Palestinians either. Palestinians are the most rascist people and they treat Pakistanis like dirt... goto the UAE and youll know what i mean. I dont like the locals of the UAE OR Kuwait cause theyre suck ups to the West. I dont like Serbs and i dont like snobby Brits and redneck Yanks.

Very childish aint it (although i dont have anything against the masris so be happy)?
