While I say that Casteism is abominable but certainly better than any ancient form of servitude.
In Indian casteism, the sudra, the worker had full freedom to tend to his land, have a life, have a wife and have a family, he did not have the freedom to be equal to other three upper castes. There have been many kings of sudra orgin in india and many researchers now complain that the manu smirti is a creation of the Britishers who created this for the propaganda. The hindu epics version of sudra /branhmin / satriya is vastly different from the briish created manu smirti. I could go further on manu .. but that is irrelevant here.
A slave has no right for marriage, even he is married has no complete right over his wife or kids.
Let us see the latest countries who abolished slavery

In all practical terms, anti slavery activists say that the above countries have even today rampant human rights violations.
