Yup, but that just goes to show how screwed up Saudi laws are. Even the most careful driver can sometimes make mistakes, unintentionally causing an accident. Yes, that is unfortunate but no one is perfect, right? Mistakes can happen.

I am shocked to learn though that under Saudi law a driver can be imprisoned, sentenced to death, and even executed despite NOT driving under the influence of any intoxicants/alcohols, NOT fleeing the scene of an accident, and NOT being dishonest otherwise when confronted by the police.

It's scary, really.

i am not sure but few years back i saw a tv show on pakistani channel....according to that show...

even in pakistan there is provision for death penalty if careless driving causes death...i dont know about west....:(

in india some times mob justice equals the score by killing drivers

In the West, I think capital punishments are quite rare and given in exceptional circumstances, if at all, so a death penalty is certainly not applicable in the case of an accident. However, there are definitely laws against reckless driving so a person can face prison sentence for causing an accident while being drunk/drugged.
