Saudi prince killed in ambush

A Saudi prince was ambushed and killed by suspected Islamic extremists while hunting gazelles in the Algerian desert, newspaper reports say.
The reports said the prince, identified as Talal ben Abdelaziz Arrashid, was shot and killed during the night of Thursday to Friday in a confrontation in which nine people were killed and several injured.

He was described as a wealthy businessman and the editor of the Saudi illustrated magazine Fawasel.

The Algerian newspapers said he was part of a group of several Saudis accompanied by Algerian security forces that had been hunting rare desert species such as gazelles and great bustards for several weeks.

The hunters’ convoy of four-wheel drive vehicles was ambushed in the Djelfa region, 250km south of Algiers, the reports said. Three Saudis and four Algerians were taken hostage and later rescued unharmed about 40km away in an operation by security forces, the daily El Khabar said.

Officials neither confirmed nor denied the reports.

Le Soir d’Algerie said the Saudi government sent a special aircraft to Algiers on Friday to take back the prince’s body.

The newspapers said the attack was probably carried out by members of the largest Islamic extremist movement in Algeria, the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), which in September claimed its allegiance to al-Qaeda.

The daily L’Expression said the attackers were probably acting in accordance with “the instructions of the leader of the world Islamic terror movement, Osama Bin Laden, who has called the Saudi royal family a puppet of the Americans.”

The same group earlier this year captured 32 European trekkers in the desert and held them as hostages. Some were rescued by security forces, but 14 were eventually handed over in the Mali desert in August.

Hunting is a favourite sport of rich Saudis. Newspapers here have frequently denounced the government for permitting foreigners from the Gulf states to hunt rare and protected species in the Algerian desert.

Comment:

Another victim due to the Saudies forming alliances with America. The anger against the west and those muslims from the ruling elites who support America is growing by the day with daily attacks and abuse against their supporters. Muslim rulers must learn a lesson from this and steer well clear of America and the west and form alliances with muslims who are their brethren in faith. Islam condemns violence as a method to change and groups like Hizb ut Tahrir are working in the Islamic lands to bring about change in a peaceful manner.

They had it coming...It was only a time before these royals started living like Bush, in constant threat and fear...

If America was the arm, these royals were the bludgeon upon the backs of Muslims...

Inna-Lillah-e-Wainna-Ilaih-e-Rajioon...I don't know if I should even write this, I write it only because he was a Muslim, and we don't celebrate the misfortunes of a Muslim, no matter how wretched...

The only criticism we can level against the Saudi Royals is their alliance with the west. Outside of that they are the best of creation. And since we don't celebrate the misfortunes of a Muslim, no matter how wretched, let's continue to blame the US for the ummah's plight. Some may call that blame displacement or accuse us of making excuses or not taking responsiblity for our own actions, but those people would be evil agents of the west.

Seminole, only if west had not support in making these royals "ROYALS" the situation would have been different.

Prince who? Number 10324? There are so many that I just loose count.

good good :smokin:

What's so special about him that he gets to hunt endangered species of gazelles ? On that basis alone, he should have been arrested... though not killed.

Looks like prince 3446758960 to the throne in not getting much sympathy from the muslims for getting shot up.

Guess it must be that link to the best friend of American regime the one and only corrupt house of saud!

lets not pass judgements, a man was killed, a life was lost. Do you kow this person? or do you judge him because he is part of a large family that you dislike?

its a shame he was killed, no one has a right to murder anyone. I am sure his family and kids are feeling his loss and so are his friends.

For all you know he could have been better than you lot put together.

have some shame

Ina Lillah e wa Ina alehah rajaoon..

May allah forgive his sins, give patience and strength to his family and punish the murderers.

May allah give severe punishment to the House of Saud for bringing disgrace to the Muslim ummah, for there help in killing muslims of iraq for there supplying of resources to the enemies of islam.

My condolenses to the family, but my sympathies are with the poor of Saudi Arabia not the monarchy hidden behind a theocracy.

These "ROYALS" were royal long before U.S. had anything to do with SA. They fought their own battles and have been in power for some 100 years I believe.

So this endless and ridiculous claim that the West and the U.S. "installed" the House of Saud is simply not the case. The notion that but for the involvement of the U.S., Saudi would be such a tolerant beacon of the ideal Islamic state is ridiculous-it rather would be another Talibania-such a joyful, progressive place.

The only thing Standard Oil did was build the entire means by which that country, its royalty and yes, general population now prosper-and then sold it to the Saudis. You got a problem with them buying U.S. weapons with all of that money? They don't. And those weopons and U.S. involvement kept Sadaam the hell out of there. Fundos have had a problem with Saudi Royalty since they grabbed power long before Socal arrived, and fundos still have a problem with it.

So pansy fundo-symps, if you have a problem with the condition of Saudi Arabia take it up with the Royal family like the folks in Algeria, and quit blaming the U.S.-a wonderfully progressive and industrious country that made life waaay better for the average person on the Arabian Penisula. We even helped pay for their flying lessons.

hskhan, but lets separate the individual from the family? why judge him solely based on what position his family is in..thats what I am saying. I am sure you would nto want to be judged as a part of some group you happen to belong to due to blood lines, faith, ethnicity or race etc etc

If I chose to associate with these people and considered myself one of them, I would have no problem to be judged as the particular group (ethnic, faith, etc).

Dont get me correct, its sad news. But one must realize he's from a family with a long history of enemies - many of whom have legit reasons to be enemies.

hey saudis are bad people, atleast thats wht i’ve read on these very same forums. one got killed, so wht? one less bad person to worry about. rite mr-f? :halo:

An honest question(s):

What would Saudi look like had there been no oil or Western investment?

Would there be fewer poor people?

Would there be religious harmony?

Would there be no Royal Family ruling the country?

Please describe what you think Saudi Arabia would be like.

What would it be like if America hadn't been discovered?

Would there be peace on Earth?

Would there be no capitalist expansion and subjugation?

Please describe what the world would be like...

Hypothetical questions lead us nowhere...Saudi Arabia is there ruled by a dictatorial monarchy which the Muslims must eventually overthrow...Not because it's a monarchy, but it serves the interests of the Kuffar against us, the Muslims...It must go down...

Exactly Fraudz...Now you are making sense...Not all Arabs are bad and not all Talibs are repressive and not all Al-Qaeda followers are terrorists...So we should not cheer the deaths of our brothers in faith...They are fighting a war for the Ummah...My thread in the images section will explain why they fight that war...And why the fight will grow and come to every Muslim home, then there will be only do or die...

where you are wasting your words? yeh do-dhari talvar hai, katay ga to dono taraf se, issi liey to naam fraudia aur paisha piri-faqeeri hai. :halo:
