So from this article, I found this :

Someone please tell me, is KSA following the Sharia law? Or have they made these “national” laws to suit themselves? When it is convenient for them they use the “national” laws and when convenient follow the Sharia law? Because I do not think this is how the Sharia law works…

P.S. If the father is mentally disturbed, he should not be released as if it is all sorted out with money, he should be committed to a psychiatric facility to get treatment, because obviously something is wrong with him to want to check the virginity of a 5yr old girl.

the bolded part has been added also, the story was originally that the mother took blood money. of course, if the issue of fathers cannot be held responsible was true it couldnt carry the payment of blood money either. basically what i think has happened is that the (divorced) mother does not blame the father of the child, or does not blame as much as we’d expect. i do not know why. however the trueist statement is that the media has really taken to this story and is reporting lies

just checked bbc which which still gives some wrong information on the man, but it does not mention rape, and implies the man was given death sentenced which was pardoned by the mother BBC News - Anger over death of Saudi girl after father’s ‘beating’

yes the saudis are following Islamic laws, the national law jibe has been made to mock, and to find favour for the anti saudi propaganda where some disagreement exists. im not a saudi apologist btw you investigate the issues yourselves see what you find
