Re: Sanjay Dutt gets 5 years in jail in 1993 Mumbai blasts case
While it is old news that Sanjay Dutt has been sentenced to five years jail imprisonment, the latest emerging is the concern of producers. Sanjay Dutt has been a bankable actor and looking at the various films he has signed, nearly ₹130 – 150 crore are now at stake! The Supreme Court’s judgement has come as a big blow to several of his films.
Dutt’s list of upcoming films include Dharma Productions’ Ungli, Ashta*vinayak’s Sher, Reliance Entertainment’s Zanjeer, Aamir Khan Productions’ P.K. and Policegiri. Even Vinod Chopra Films recently announced the third installment of the Munnabhai series. Also, a cameo in Ghanchakkar has been announced. Speaking of the affect this verdict is going to have on his films, trade analyst Taran Adarsh said,” “The films he is working on will be affected but then you also need to consider that he is not playing the lead roles in all of them. Like even in Zanjeer, it is only the supporting roles. We’ll have to find out the amount of work that he has completed in these films and then calculate the losses. I think Policegiri will be affected the most as he plays the lead in it.”
While Sher, Ungli and the cameo in Ghanchakkar have finished their schedule with Sanjay Dutt, the upcoming film of the Munnabhai series will be not be affected much considering the fact that it has just been announced.
Policegiri will be the most adversely affected since the actor is playing the lead role. The film is a remake of Tamil film Saamy and will star Prachi Desai opposite Sanjay Dutt. The film’s producer Rahul Aggarwal says, “Sanjay was nearing the end of his shoot for the film. The entire team is shocked and shattered. We are hoping for a change in the sentence as there is still a chance to file a review petition against the verdict.” The film’s schedule was about 20 days, of which Sanjay has completed four days of shooting. ₹35-40 crore is now at stake!
According to a close friend of the actor, “He will complete the films if the police allow him to. Even his passport and driving licence have already been confiscated. Whether or not he’ll complete the films is something that only time can tell.” Sanjay Dutt has been given a period of four weeks to surrender. However, his team is reportedly looking for ways to complete the shoot and they are leaving no stone unturned.
Another film that is one of the most-awaited is Zanjeer, where Dutt will be seen reprising the role of Pran. ₹60 crore are at stake for this film which stars actor Ram Charan Teja in Amitabh Bachchan’s role. Sanjay Dutt’s look in the film has been carefully guarded and was expected to be revealed later. Aamir Khan’s much-hyped P.K., that has ₹60 crore at stake, also stars Dutt in a supporting role

Re: Sanjay Dutt gets 5 years in jail in 1993 Mumbai blasts case
Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who was convicted under the Arms Act for his role in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, addressed the media today, Thursday, from outside his residence. He was accompanied by his sister Priya Dutt, who is a Congress MP.
Dutt said, “I have not applied for pardon. There are many others who deserve it… All I want to say is that I am a law-abiding citizen of this country… With folded hands I want to tell the media and people… When i am not going for a pardon, there is no debate about it. Right now, I am a shattered man… I have the highest respect for the honorable Supreme Court. I will surrender when the time is given…”
Soon after addressing the media, Sanjay Dutt broke down in front of the media persons.
The actor made it very clear to all that he will surrender in due time. As of now, he would want to be left alone as he has very less time and that he would want to spend it with his family.
The teary-eyed Dutt said, “I have a lot of work left to be finished. I have to spend time with my family. Please let me be in peace till the time I surrender. I love my country and its citizens. I love India.”
It is heard that, Sanjay Dutt has been calling close friends (Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn), pleading with them to take care of wife Manyata and their three kids in his absence.

I feel sorry for Sanjay Dutt, but I also trust the supreme court of India when it said that it simply could not ignore the gravity of the crime and amount of evidence against him. Self defense is a legitimate concern, but you can’t justify hoarding AK47s and hand grenades for that purpose.
Here is an extract from a Times of India article, describing the evidence seen by the supreme court
1993 Bombay bomb blasts: Supreme Court sentences Sanjay Dutt to 5 years in jail - Times Of India
“On January 15, 1994, Samir Hingora, Hanif Kandawala, Ibrahim Musa Chauhan aka Baba and Abu Salem, then absconding, came to the residence of Dutt at Pali Hill, Bandra, Bombay and told him that they would deliver the weapons next day. On January 16, Hingora, Baba and Salem delivered three AK-56 rifles and 250 rounds of ammunition and some hand grenades at Dutt’s residence. On January 18, 1993, out of the above three AK-56 rifles and ammunition, two rifles and some ammunition were taken away by co-accused persons including Mansoor Ahmed.”
There was also this article in India today that Sanjay was in touch with the gangsters even after the attacks
It wasn’t his foolish mistake, Sanjay Dutt was in touch with Shakeel after blasts, say cops : North, News - India Today
He was accused of participating in the '94 bomb blasts in which 257 people lost their lives. It was a BIG deal, not some petty back-alley fight. He may be a reformed man today, but if not for his celebrity status, I doubt anyone would want a pardon for him.
