Re: Salman Butt is Afridi's "Main Guy"
He should be given credit for his good performance. Instead his haters are waiting for him to fail...really sad. After all he is the 2nd highest scorer of the tournament.
I havent seen majority of his detractors giving him credit for this knock! wait till he flops and see all knives come out.. ;)
may be the fans need to realize that even they are not bigger than the game and sometimes they need to acknowledge the efforts of those who they hate.
Take a bow Salman Butt!
Re: Salman Butt is Afridi's "Main Guy"
Well he did perform in this match, but is unlucky for some reason, his performance has seldom helped Pakistan to win any match, whenever he is the highest scorer in the Pakistan side, Pakistan have lost the match...
Anyway, i liked his batting, he seems to be changed man/batter, needs to work on his fielding skills, actually he need to develop fielding skills...

And the formula worked again, Salman getting out cheaply, Pakistan won the game!!! :)

hanibal looks like u havent watched his match winning performances against India n Srilanka

I guess you miss understood me, It is like Tendulkar, most of his centuries or good knocks are in the matches where india have lost.... Salman BuTT is no where near to Tendulkar's talent and performance, however he matches his abilities...
Now talking about match winning performance against srilanka & india, if i recall it right, Saqlain once fought well in a test match against Zimbabwe to save Pakistan, and then there one all-rounder, Azhar Mehmood, he use to hit South Africans ( and the times of Alan Donald, Polock) like anything and have scored centuries against them at a healthy strike-rate, so one or two or three performances doesn't count much, a batsman is known for his technique and ability to perform under different circumstances, I am sorry to say, Salman Butt lacks both... although he had performed in NZ and have given us some good innings in the current tournament, however, he is not consistent and struggle against the fast bowlers... saying this, it is not an excuse that none other batsman of Pakistan handle fast bowling well....
The fans like us, who have seen Saeed Anwar, Aamer Sohail, Inzimam ul Haq, and even Rameez Raja in Action cannot digest the QUALITY salman offers...

Salman Butt has score most runs for pakistan in this tournament.. yes he is bad.. ![]()

Butt has done well against Aussies/NZ and T20 WC where every "quality" batsman have struggled. At least give him some credit for that.

So Salman Butt performed in NZ, Australia, and then in NZ (i.e., Pakistan's last three series), yet you're dead-set against him. What else do you want for consistency? Your excuse for "playing well in a losing cause" doesn't make much sense either. By that token, Mohammad Aamer must be a terrible bowler as well because he bowled in a losing cause in the Australia series. The whole team sucks but one or two guys perform, and you choose to criticize the guy that actually performed?
Your cop-out of "not an excuse that none other Pak batsmen handle fast bowling well" is really pathetic. Well, if the whole team sucks, then why single one guy out? I am no big fan of Salman Butt, but I appreciate the fact that he makes an effort and has been performing reasonably well recently. None of our batsmen have the technique or the talent to handle good fast bowling (and even good spin bowling), except Younis.
You mention Saeed Anwar, Inzimam, but please understand the fact that very few batsmen in the world are of their caliber. We have to make do with what we currently have.
Re: Salman Butt is Afridi's "Main Guy"
yee tu waqi main guy nikla :)
Re: Salman Butt is Afridi's "Main Guy"
In reality, Afridi is the main guy. If he performs, Pakistan wins. He can change the game in many ways.
Salman has been a joy to watch so far. Now comes the real test. If he wants to be taken seriously and considered as the main guy he must perform in the Semi-Final. It is these types of matches where good players become great.
Re: Salman Butt is Afridi’s “Main Guy”

Excatly, did his performance made Pakistan Win ? this is the point i made, which made you furious.. and please when it comes to comparison, don't compare apple with orange... Aamer is new, he need international exposure, he have got he basics right and there room for improvement... on the other hand, BUTT is just an average player ( so far) had some big knocks under his belt, but so does Azhar Mehmood, does that make Azhar a star cricketer?
Your cop-out of "not an excuse that none other Pak batsmen handle fast bowling well" is really pathetic. Well, if the whole team sucks, then why single one guy out? So you want to say that, if others are not performing, it is an excuse to not to perform at all? is this what you mean? if yes, then i don't see y Pakistan cricket or any sector should progress... as far as making effort is concerned, tax-payers money is not paid to make JUST an effort, they need something in return.... now tell me, how many times BUTT played the way he played against NZ in last T20? i don't know exactly how many matches he have played by now ( please do not count matches on the flat tracks..evev Yovraj scores on it and as soon as he goes to forieng pitches he is out of form...
You mention Saeed Anwar, Inzimam, but please understand the fact that very few batsmen in the world are of their caliber. We have to make do with what we currently have.
Saeed Anwar, Inzimam and others were human just as we, the only difference between the class and average player like BUTT is that they had technique and with international exposure and practice they groomed..
It is said that, MAN Gets what it work/look for, we were looking pacer like Wasim and we got Aamer in the side and now we can say that, another WASIM is in making, 3/4 years or may be more down the road, he'll start delivering and if he didn't change him.. The ban on Asif was blessing in disguise, it made room for Young Aamer, and then we got Akmal again talented cricketer if treated well can deliver in future.... same we should do with our openers.. why are we stuck with Shazaib and BUTT and i don't know who other, why don't inject young blood...Babar Awan seems to be sound opener... he could been tried... i am sure even average performance by a talented cricketer would be better than what we have got from BUTT....
The effects of Indian Media can be seen, average cricketers are over-hyped.. look at the averages of most of Indian cricketers.... we are doing the same, if someone performed he is good, if he didn't then he is bad again if he performed he is good and cycle goes on... we should be able to judge our cricketers on the basis of their technique.. the player with better technique turns into likes of Saeed Anwar, Zaheer Abbas, Javaid Miandad, Basit Ali and many more... players with bad technique turns into Ijaz BUTT the chairman of the board... i hope you get the point this time...
Re: Salman Butt is Afridi’s “Main Guy”
Me too don’t like Butt and believe he is not match wining player like most of the indians
but here I ve to appreciate him
at least he is scoring
Re: Salman Butt is Afridi’s “Main Guy”
I got to see a little of Butt’s batting in the Pak-NZ match and it did seem as if he has improved his technique somewhat. Besides, him and Razzaq were the only positives in our batting lineup in that match.
Talking about batting statistics and contributions to wins and losses, here’s an interesting article by Saad Shafqat… stipulating that if Pak is to win matches, then Razzaq and Umar Akmal need to perform well (purely based on statistical correlations).
