That there is a point beyond which repentance is of no effect.

yes, i know this, .....but what was implicated by this quote by coconut: "To vanquish All your past sins major or minor. & The salaat is performed to rid of sins like any other." is that actually by performing this namaaz you'll get purified....that IS what I'm discussing.....this would lead to som ppl thinking that only this namaaz is enough, whereas it is the whole of all good deeds which count and not only this namaaz :~)

When I said "to vanquish all your past sins major and minor" I thought it would be clear that its upto Allah if he choses to clear them or not. hope it this doesn't cause any confusion.

NeSCio,

Allah tells us that we can repent any time for all our sins. Allah also tells us that he does not want to punish us, so we should keep repenting and He will erase our sins. The only caviat is that repentance will not be accepted when death is imminent. Since you don't know when you are going to die (e.g. any of us can instantly die tomorrow while crossing the street), so its best to repent for all known and unknown sins all the time, and at a minimum each night before going to sleep.

So, this is just to answer your question that someone commits sins all his life and cleans up his slate before he dies. Yes, he can. We should not doubt Allah's infinite mercy.

Even, if you die without repenting for all your sins, Allah, being Rahmaan and Raheem, can and will, inshallah, forgive your sins. The only sin He says He will not forgive is shirk. That is, if you die without repenting for shirk. If you repent, than inshallah He will forgive everything.

Re: Salatul Tasbeeh... those who believe in this, more power to you. Its a long salah and takes patience and energy. Those who "have doubts about it", you are most welcome to such "doubts", but as an advise its best if you do offer your repentance for via other means, even if you don't "believe" in salatul tasbeeh. This is for your own good.

thnx coconut and faisal
