You should either say Assalaam-o-Alikum or you shouldn’t bother to say anything at all cause Salaaam jus means ‘‘peace’’, which has no standing in our religion so either say ‘’ Peace be upon you’', which is Assalaam-o-Alikum or don’t bother to speak.
