British were clever folk , good administrators. Their infrastructure still exists, all of the roads in my area were built by british. A very old bridge of british times on river tochi is still intact while the new bridge built crashed within months due to low quality material.
They did extensive research of native areas, its culture, langauge, customs, tribes, castes, history, census etc. They didnt interfere with local traditions.
Still we pakhtuns had issues with them…they stopped our encroachments into east and we stopped their imperialism at hindukush. We reminded them that they are not that unstoppable.
But they were super power for reason, they learnt our weaknesses and they punished us by dividing us by durand line…and within India they came up with FCR for turbulent tribes
