TEHRAN (Reuters) - Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been arrested in his home town of Tikrit, according to Jalal Talabani, head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the official IRNA news agency reported on Sunday.
The news agency report was from Qasr-e Shirin in Iran. There was no independent confirmation of the report.
A Pentagon spokeswoman could not confirm the report.
Comment:
Is this the christmas present which Bush has been dreaming of? maybe, but even if this is true it would be a re-union of former friends and allies. Just because Saddam has been arrested or killed makes no difference what so ever to the resistence movement in iraq and will continue until every last foreign soldier leaves iraq and the destiny of choosing a system is returned back to the masses who desire the return of Islamic rule.
Some body seems so hurt and in tears so early in the morning. My condolences to you. Dude are you Iraqi and speaking on Iraqis' behalf? all those tall claims about "resistance shall continue...". If this news is true, will see 6 months from now.

Well hope he gets tried and punished for all the gruesome crimes he was responsible for.

What about all the gruesome crimes committed by the Americans? At least he didn't kill thousands of Afghans and Iraqis in the name of liberation and freedom. Never mind the covert CIA operations that ended the lives of so many in Indonesia & other places and the duplicity of the American govt. in refusing to accept Yasir Arafat as the elected leader of palestiniann after the elections were held under the aegies of UN.
I do not support Saddam for what he did. But I liked the fact that he was a pain in the Bush's ass. and anything or anyone that causes pain to Bush makes me happy. :(:)
But if this is Saddam then this will be the real test for the American’s, and we will see if the resistance to the American’s end. The US has been wrong on two previous occasions. The American’s thought they would get no resistance when they moved into Baghdad in April, and then thought it would reduce or end after they captured Saddam’s sons in July. Both times they were massively wrong.
The American’s have declared victory so many times in Iraq for it to get even bloodier for them, so I am sure they will again.
Anyhow I hope Saddam get’s a cell next to Milosevic in the Hague, and then the Bush follows them there soon.
Celebrations also occured when US military boys rolled into Bag Dad and the statue was toppled. But thats besides the point ..
This should be a mission accomplished for US and they should pack up and leave the country and let the Iraqi people form their own govt. and not some puppet govt thats currently there. That should help stop the current resistance against the US occupation.
Precisely, and that is what the Iraqi people are saying on the streets of Iraq - the very same one’s who are seen to be celebrating Saddam’s apparent capture.
What excuse do the American’s now have of remaining in Iraq?
Let’s see if this will be the third American “victory” snatched from their jaws like the other two they have declared during the last nine months?
5Abi this is a thread about Saddam Hussein and his capture there are plenty of threads dedicated to what the "U.S. should do" let's keep it out of this one, you should know that.
When Saddam was caught he was hiding in a hole, looks like the last few months have been rough, sporting a ragged looking gray beard.

What they're saying right now is "Death to Saddam"

They have been using exactly the same words for the American's during the last nine months, if you care to remember. For that some of them have been mowed down by American soldiers while demonstrating against the American's.
But flick over to some non-American news network (if you have any) and you might see a more truer picture of the many things Iraqi people are now saying.
did u guyz see the pix on TV??? he’s grown a big beard and they were doing his medical tests and stuff and have taken DNA samples of him to test. he didnt put up any resistance to his arrest. and he was hiding in the basement of some farmhouse.
waisay seriously, couldnt he have found a better place to hide? something seems to be fishy in all this
btw the announcement by that us govt official ‘ladies and gentlemen, we got him’ was soooooo cheezy typical hollywood style
Now for true justice, Saddam Hussain should be given to the people of the Kurdish town of Halabja.
However, I find it highly dubious that a man hiding away like Saddam did could possible coordinate a rebellion. To to mention the fact that Saddam is so incompetent in military affairs that if ran the insurgency, it would have been defeated in 3 days.
Saddam's gone, but just as the death of his sons failed to impact the insurgents, so his capture will fail to make a dent on resistance too.
