Runner's Knee

Re: Runner's Knee

I'm not scared of the weight. I used to use 5lbs and now I have the strength for 8lbs, lol. We use bands too. We do variation of push ups in these classes (bootcamp). Ok I am going back from Monday!

Re: Runner’s Knee

The don’t threw me off I guess. Don’t they do pullups at the classes.

Re: Runner's Knee

No. It's all outdoors, in a field/park. We use the natural environment to workout, in addition to bands.

Re: Runner's Knee

Don't parks have monkey bars, for kids? I guess it's not a part of your program.

Re: Runner's Knee

First of all, you have to try and strike a balance between running and doing too much. You need to make sure you're taking your breaks while running. From your previous posts, it sounds like your quadriceps muscles are in tone (doing too much work), so before running, make sure you do a good warm up including dynamic stretching of your quads. Another reason for your quads being overused is your muscles at the back of your thigh are weak (hamstrings), which is the case with a lot of women. So it would be a good idea to do some hamstrings strengthening (look up on youtube for simple exercises).

Also, when your knee is hurting you, it is inflammed, so really give it rest and allow it to heal, otherwise it is going to keep recurring.

Make sure you get your alignment checked out and get good shoes to accomodate for your flat feet + add some cushioning. Be mindful of surfaces you are running on as that is a MAJOR contributor factor of a runner's knee.

Also, although your pain is in your knees, pretty much everything is our body is connected. You need to focus on strengthening your hip muscles as well to offload your knee.

Re: Runner's Knee

In one of your posts you mentioned doing lots of jumping. Quit that. One way to strengthen quest is jog slowly downhill - queer pl confirm.

The wife calls me flat feet. Been a runner for several decades. So far no major aches pains.

If you are playing football basketball etc then sudden turns etc can cause pain. Else a nice warm up and controlled running should be uneventful. Stay off the road and find dirt roads.

Re: Runner’s Knee

I have stopped all the jumping, hard impact exercising. I’m able to run now, but I don’t push myself to go super fast. It doesn’t hurt as much, but the knees are still cracking and popping. At least the pain has stopped.

Most importantly, I went to The Running Room and had my feet assessed. I have super flat feet, not much options for me other than to invest in a pair of Mizuno running shoes. They support my feet. It was between Mizuno and Saucony. Saucony felt way too heavy, whereas Mizunos were lighter.

These are the shoes.
