Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

^ It would be important to educate fellow readers about the duty structure on these new, dealer imported cars. With 100% duty, whatever you spend on a new car must be paid in duty. Duties that effectively are invested back into services.

Spock, I'd argue these dealerships, if anything are providing a disadvantage for individuals wanting to import cars. While duties at a dealership is 100%, most cars are imported on discounted duty. We're talking about a 50% duty reduction if imported properly. It would make more sense to import privately, and people are.

The benefit of this dealership comes not in their sales department, but rather in their aftermarket repairs. This entry of rolls royce to Lahore will create a serivce hub.

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

Fine "BMW owns Rolls Royce", but again, this kinds of investment is not going to take Pakistan to new heights, actually not further than few people getting jobs at dealership, they may even have a service shop too. When term 'investment' is used, it is much more beyond opening a shop.

I asked you previously, BMW/Rolls Royce has similar showrooms and I am sure their sales are much much higher than where sales compared to Pakistan.... now let me know if BMW/Rolls Royce has production plant in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Eqypt .... or simply put, how many countries are producing BMWs, Rolls Royce and how many countries have these "showrooms" investments?

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

I agree that there lots of rich people in Pakistan, they might 'benefit' from such dealership, instead of flying out to lets say Dubai and get it exported from there and import into Pakistan hassle will be saved. My only point was, how this "investment" is going to be beneficial for "Pakistan". The tax may or may not be same when compared to private imports (hskhan said that it may actually be lower taxed).

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

okay guys at minimum it gives some ppl jobs and from an outsiders percpective it looks good..

any negatives..no

lets move on

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

Yes, maybe but you have to realize that these people who can afford such luxury cars, this small difference, if it exists does not mean anything to them, they would just go for whatevers more convenient, and I guess these dealerships will be providing their warranty services, just like they do here in the US etc.. Btw, if anyone has been to Sialkot, Ive seen some of the best cars there, plenty of rich industrialists there.

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

Fraudia:chalo, lets go :)

actually there are negatives, but I didn't want to bring them up yet :)

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

Its not suppose to, perhaps. The government is not going to lose anything if they allow this, but rather gain (in the long-term), hence they shouldn't be interfering with it for any reason. Money is going to leave the economy no matter what. Atleast this way, people can actually save some money instead of paying 100-150% duty on imported vehicles.

You are right. Perhaps I shouldn't have used the word investment.
Its the first step to an investment, which most likely will occur. And I've already explained how, and given crystal-clear examples.

I answered that question previously - Japan & America both have BMW assembly lines. Dubai is not a country, and UAE's skilled workforce is imported, hence it is not an ideal location for a motor company to open up production plants. Saudi Arabia lacks the needed skilled workforce - most of it (workforce) is imported as well. As for Egypt, reread the article I posted - it clearly states that a 7series manufacturing line is going to be added to the country soon. And, this is after the initial work done by BMW (showrooms & dealerships).

I don't have time to research all of this. If you really want to know, try googling it.

Paragliding takes flight in Pakistan as economy booms

For Pakistan’s new class of affluent but bored young people, action sports like paragliding are providing a healthier outlet than fast cars and recreational substances. “It is better than drugs and drag racing on city roads,” says local pioneer Sajjad Shah, 43, as he unloads gliders from his green Toyota Prado in the scenic northwestern village of Thipra. Shah, one of the country’s top pilots, says people often approach him and his friends when they fly in the Margalla Hills overlooking the capital Islamabad and beg to be taught how to paraglide.
“Paragliding is not an expensive sport and for youths who destroy cars worth million of rupees in a night while racing it is no big deal for them,” said Shah, who is also president of the Pakistan Association of Free Flying. On a recent trip Shah and his fellow pilots make a steep 45-minute climb in this sub-Himalayan region then unpack the fabric wings, lay them on the ground and hook them to their harnesses. One by one they stand facing the wind before the gliders lift them into the sky. Minutes later the pilots land in the cornfields below as schoolchildren in ragged clothes gather to greet them. “Only a paraglider pilot knows why birds sing,” said fellow pilot Abdul Jabbar Bhatti after touching down. Despite fears of terrorism since September 11, 2001 that have sent tourist numbers plummeting, top paragliders have recently visited the flying school run by Shah and friends at Thirpa. One top flyer, Leroy Westerkamp of the Netherlands, this year set a new world record for gaining height while paragliding, ascending 4,526 metres (14,849 feet) to reach an altitude of 7,685 meters in Pakistan’s northern Hunza district. The Dutchman will return next year to fly over the 8,611-meter K2, the world’s second highest mountain, in a paraglider. The Pakistan Association of Free Flying plans to hold an international paragliding festival next year at Chajian near Islamabad. The only setback to the sport has been the April 2006 government ban on paragliding near Islamabad for security reasons. “Paragliding has a great potential to promote tourism in Pakistan and we have sponsored paragliding events” during the famous Shandur polo festival in northwest Pakistan, says Jahangir Khan, deputy chief of Pakistan Tourism Development.

Pakistan’s economy has also soared in recent years. Growth was 8.4 percent in 2004-2005, its highest in two decades, and although it dipped to 6.6 percent officials say the outlook is still good. Analysts say the booming economy has enhanced the buying power of the middle-classes of the 150 million population, while those with old money are living luxuriously.
**Pakistan’s first Rolls-Royce showroom opened in Lahore this week and other luxury carmakers including Porsche, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are branching out. “We have sold 50 Porches during the past 10 months and the demand is still rising,” said Taimur Malik, sales manager of Autotechnik Private Limited which opened Pakistan’s first Porsche facility last year, also in Lahore. **"Pakistan is a booming automobile market and that is why Porsche itself selected it to sell their high-end exclusive cars," he said. “A loose monetary policy and increased remittances from overseas has benefitted the middle and upper-middle class over the past five or six years,” said Mohammad Sohail, an economic analyst. “The resultant boom has brought further riches to the already rich,” Sohail said. Instant gratification is hard to come by in Pakistan and here buyers have to wait months for their luxury cars – and often for lesser models – despite paying in advance. And with a ban on the public consumption of alcohol meaning that organised nightlife is almost non-existent in Pakistan, young people find themselves similarly frustrated. Extreme sports could provide them with the outlet, suggests paraglider Shah. “It provides more of a thrill than riding a motorbike with its front wheel in the air and losing one’s life,” he says.

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

it reminds me of a historical epsode:" if people dont have bread, why dont they eat cakes".

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

Hey nice find Silly Billy, very interesting article.

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

I dont know why people are maoning about? Money will buy whatever it takes, dealership will be opened for such cars where there is need!

they will start manufacture if the demand grows 10 folds! every business run like that.

its pity that some can afford phantom in the country where nearly 40% people dont have access to clean water or eat properly. but this is not linked to RR opening a branch there.
Thats compeletely different issue of social justice. which can be done by closing luxary cars.

there is demand even for private jets in Pakistan and many business owner has these already.

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

well porche has been a smash hit, they sold 30 from the lahore showroom in the first month, they now have a bigger showroom opening up in lahore.

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

RR will attract more than 300% - 400% import duty to CBR Pakistan. the real cost of the car is fraction of the total cost.

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

Where are you getting these figures from?! 400%? Source it please. The US Department of Commerce
International Trade Administration (Office of Aerospace and Automotive Industries) says on the import of new cars:

http://www.ita.doc.gov/td/auto/international/importreq/TBR2006.pdf

My point was private importers will pay 50% of what dealers will. Private importers can save a bundle even if they import the car legally.

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

^^^ sorry but I was talking about import duties in Pakistan. not US

Re: Rolls Royce to open dealerships in Pakistan

Those ARE for Pakistan :-). If you opened the document, it'd show the duty structures not only for Pakistan, but a handful of other countries as well. Its a compilation of foreign motor vehicle import requirements. Pakistan is pg 46.
Where did you source 300% to 400%?
