Would I buy a diamond solitaire to wear on my right hand? No. Why? B/C I always knew I wanted a diamond solitaire for my engagement ring and didn’t want 2 identical rings on both of my hand…b/c in my opinion that just looks retarded. It has nothing to do with the amount of money I earn or my need to “prove” something to the world.
BUT here is the thing…what you and I consider to be an “engagement” ring may not be what someone else considers it. Many women buy/love “engagement” rings that are not solitaires…but that doesn’t mean that they ring they get from their fiance and wear on their left hand is not a “engagement” ring.
I actually know someone who wears a solitaire on her right hand…and is engaged. Her engagement right is one those entricate/modern designs. The reason she bought/wears the solitaire? She likes the look of it…but finds it too “boring” to wear every single day. So on days when she actually does wear the solitaire on her right now…she’s not out to declare anything.
What I find annoying about this is the ASSUMPTION that a woman wearing a solitaire is doing it b/c she wants to “declare” her independence. Maybe she just likes the ring, is single (hence no SO to “propose” with it), and doesn’t mind buying it for herself. But its this assumption on other people’s part that she’s doing it to “prove” something that bothers me.
