Rice brands

Re: Rice brands

I use Zebra but my mom uses zebra and some other paki brand, i don't remember the name.

Re: Rice brands

I used to use Zebra and of all the brands I ever tried I liked it the best...
then a while ago they weren't available so I switched to Tilda. Its nice too.I use it for special occasions for when I am having company.
For every day use(boiled rice)I get the basmati rice from sam's club. Its good too.

Re: Rice brands

Zebra always!!

Re: Rice brands

Falak the best.
and sometime shaan too.

bc, esp metro vancouver has DOZENS of desi shops. many of them carry zebra, tilda, etc.

I found me some Tilda at walmart sitting next to uncle ben's basmati rice..... ahh the world that is canada :)

Re: Rice brands

Okay I went for groceries today and it looked like they sell the rice at $1 per pound. so a 10 pound bag was 9.99 and the 40 pound bag was $38.99. I've only had to buy rice 2ce in the last year and both times my mother brought it, so I didn't know the prices etc.
i bought the 3 rivers one (green wala), the 10 lb bag. Let's see how it turns out.

Re: Rice brands

I have been using many brands…last time I bought a 20 kg Super Kernel bag for €25 ($34)…

PS: Buy Pakistani rice because its price has gone down by some 40% recently… :jhanda:

Re: Rice brands

If you are in the UK, go for Sainsbury's basmati rice 1.61 per kg and Sainsbury's easy cook basmati rice for biryani and zarda! Very best indeed

Laila, India gate, agreed on the aged rice bit, the older the rice, the better it is

Re: Rice brands

...me being curious again. Does rice have a used by date?

Re: Rice brands

^ actually, the older the rice, the better it gets. so there really isn't a best used by date.

Re: Rice brands

We use loads of different brands-Zebra really stood out for using for dawats/special wow meals.
Other faves are: Heera, Habib (very good indeed!), Lilly (but they disappeared!!) & Salaam.

Heera has been on offer for £16.50 for 20 KG-nice bargain if you ask me.
