review and comments on winter olympics opening ceremony

Re: review and comments on winter olympics opening ceremony

I’ve heard many mixed opinions about the opening ceremonies. To my surprise, many actually simply loved it. This is also evident from comments around the blogosphere.

That being said, I was personally very disappointed.

To start with, who the hell approved that horrendous rendition of “O Canada”. It sounded like a bad american idol audition. Yanofsky’s other song “I Believe” (see below) was such a great experience, but she sang the national anthem horribly.

The first nations tribute was a good idea – and initially I was glad to see them getting such a prominent platform to create awareness, but their bit was overdone!! the native opening was way too protracted and that took away from the true message of cultural blending in Canada - Our cultural index certainly goes beyond hoop dancing Indians.

Lastly, even though I’m a sedentary fan of Furtado, I sure wish Celine Dion hadn’t withdrawn from singing with Bryan Adams.

Anyways, Yanofsky’s impressed me with her singing in “I Believe”…
