Re: Respect for the Imam of the Masjid
I’ve heard of this same issue being brought up in many circles.
TLK…can you please share the hadees in which huzoor s.a.w. stopped the sahabas from standing in respect for him?

Re: Respect for the Imam of the Masjid
I remember such sayings but don't remember the reference. I heard something like that if a person is driving he should say 'Salam' to one who is walking, the walking person should pay salam to one who is sitting, something like that.
Back to the topic: So why only Imam Masjid should do such announcements? Others members of Management also can do if it is given to each and every members as weekly or monthly duty. Although this kind of works are counted in good deeds.
Re: Respect for the Imam of the Masjid
There will always be some that are bad of course. I know someone who does Imamat here in the U.S and man .. I can't even tell you how disgusting that guy is.
So coming to the topic, there are certain responsibilites that Imam has so he has to fullfill those including Imamat. Respect is a totally different issue. Is the Imam doing what he is supposed to do when he was hired as a Imam?? Was he told and given documented responsibilites he has to carry. I would still respect an Imam who leads prayers even if he wasn't carrying other responsibilites, but I would also say something if I was the authority of why he isn't fulfilling his responsibilites.
Imam does what he is suppose to do and that is Imaamat, teach kids, help community with rulings, give Khutbahs, Nikah, funeral prayers. Announcement about parking issues and wheen we are getting carpet replaced should be taken care by committee or someone else, and not by imam.
Do Imam have a "Moa'azan"? If yes then let 'Moa'azan' do announcments on behalf of Imam. If No then committee should hire or make a vacancy of a new 'Moa'azan' who look after all such affairs.
We do not have a designated mo'azzan
Anybody can make announcements , is it such a big deal that a special person has to be hired for it ? Some masajids do not have funds to hire a Moazan and Imam both.
I agree

*Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever likes men to stand up for him, let him take his place in Hell.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (2755); *
I have to find the exact context of this hadees but if memory serves, he said that when he entered masjid and sahaba stood up for him.

exactly my point
Re: Respect for the Imam of the Masjid
I think there would be many individuals who will be ready to do this free of cost.
Yep , heck in US I have seen Ph.D's cleaning Masjid toilet , cleaning debris from parking lot , painting the walls. Not that Masjid does not have fund for that purpose . They do it out of their humbleness, piety , hope for high rewards.

Exactly, Here in our local masjid, if the Imam is not available then any other person starts ‘Namaz’ as well as clean the area where others will offer namaz + Musala bichana etc., etc.,
At next gathering, some1 please read the history how Prophet Muhammad
and His Companions r.a. built a Masjid in Madinah and hand to hand.
Re: Respect for the Imam of the Masjid
I think there are three reason to do or not to do this work / to put on others.
1- Only do for Allah's agreeness.
2- Only do to get more value among others
3- None of above. If he wants to do (R1) feel ashame due to others (R2) he knows he will not get any creadits.
