Report: Death, Disease Await Iraqi Children

myvoice, only a handful of countries have signed a declaration supporting the Bush position on Iraq, now if we look at what the public opinion is in those nations than you will see that between 70 % to 90 % of people are against this war, this conflicts with the official Govt position.. Now when I say that the world demands the Bush administration accept the auspices of the UN and allow all disputes with the Iraqis to be resolved peacefully within the UN framework, I mean exactly that. Almost the entire worlds population is against this futile war, many of them are educated enough to realise that it is nothing more than an attempt by Bush & co to depose Sadam and install another puppet in order to take over Iraqs huge oil reserves. Bush intends to take over Iraq Oil PLC and turn it over to the US Oil conglomerates many of which have direct links to the Bush Administration.

As for your analysis about making judgements on the whether something is legally justified, well I think the Bush Adminstration is an expert in ignoring many International laws and conventions, they also have their own interpretations on Human Rights or they blatantly ignore them altogether.

War spells disaster for Iraqis, UN warns

A US-led war against Iraq could trigger “a humanitarian emergency of exceptional scale and magnitude”, according to confidential United Nations planning documents.

They warn that 30 per cent of Iraqi children under the age of five could die from malnutrition and that attacks on electricity and transportation would severely hamper UN efforts to help those affected.

“The collapse of services in Iraq could lead to a humanitarian emergency of proportions well beyond the capacity of UN and other aid organisations,” say the documents. “The effects of over 12 years of sanctions, preceded by war, have considerably increased the vulnerability of the population,” they state. The documents have come to light through the Centre for Economic and Social Rights (CESR). Roger Normand of the CESR said staff in Iraq obtained them from UN experts who “believe the humanitarian impact of war is of global concern and should be discussed openly”.

The CESR has issued its own report calling on the Security Council to consider the fate of supplies provided through the UN oil-for-food programme and health systems in areas occupied by military forces, before attacking Iraq

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The two Iraqi children lay helplessly in the hospital, their stomachs bleeding from shrapnel wounds. Iraqi officials pointed out the children and other civilians as a reminder on Saturday that the innocent are also victim of the U.S. and British invasion to oust President Saddam Hussein.

Omar and Saad were part of a family of 12 who were admitted to Yarmouk hospital, across the street from security buildings in west Baghdad gutted by U.S. overnight raids. “We heard an explosion and rushed to their house. Damn the Americans for this,” said Salam, a neighbor. …
