Scholars are split between those who call it haraam and those who call it makrooh. I've never seen any scholars who say it's halal.
The haraam faction (I was going say the haraami faction but that doesn't sound right :D ) argue that since smoking clearly does damage your body and can kill you, and things that kill you are haraam, then smoking is haraam
The makroohi faction argue that calling something haraam which the Prophet (saws) didn't say was haraam risks being haraam in itself. On the other hand, for the same reason as above Allah SWT is unlikely to view smoking favourably, so they stick on the makrooh label.

nopes smoking is not haram...alcohol is haram... by smoking...you are essentially killing yourself...by drinking alcohol...one is out of control & is harmful to others...
