Religion Forum - Your Opinions

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

Uncle Stalker, please do share the instances. It'll hopefully be of assistance, insha'Allah.
**
Lajawab, Mal1k & Juni^Boy**, I don't think it's within the powers of the moderators to have the members leave their ego and pride elsewhere prior to entering the forum.

As for the fatawa, I believe those of us who do post fatawa aren't churning them out on our own, but have a source for it that we often state. If it's a fatwa that doesn't go well with you, then this is no reason to restrict other members from posting fatawa. Also, more or less all of us have beliefs, opinions and views sharing of which could constitute as issuing fatawa. I believe we all need to stay tolerant while keeping our language in check.

Saying that such and such act is shirk or bi'dah should not be taken as an insult, as those who find it insulting often are the ones saying that others do not have knowledge of Islam or are misguided and the like. Again, this goes both ways.

ravage, I've got no idea about the rating system.

bao bihari, I don't think it'd be fair to only have selected posters posting in a sub-forum, while others get to be spectators. If we're talking discussion and awareness, then we'd have to provide everyone with an equal opportunity to express themselves granted that they do not breach the policy in place.

Rahul67, I'm amongst those who are not huge fans of senseless bickering and argumentation; however, some like it and find it beneficial. Therefore, I've recently started to leave them open unless they turn into something terrible, repetitive, or the like. I suppose those of us who cannot stand such discussions should just leave them alone, as it doesn't go well with our preferences (me being one of them).

Again, if we were to single out some members to post at the expense of others, then likely it won't be fair; unless, it happens to be a member who does nothing, but create trouble and is better off staying away from the forum.

Are there any other suggestions or ideas? Are there any words that need to be banned or permitted? What are some policies that you'd all like to see implemented or changed?

To clarify, I'm not the policy maker here. Therefore, do not feel as though your comments and suggestions would be going in vain. I just felt I should respond to the best of my ability. I'm sure the other moderators and likely the Admin will be looking into it as well.

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

One suggestion: Never take an extremist as a moderator. You need impartial people to moderate the religion forum, so that they can tell when ANY religion is being insulted vs. discussed.

Oh definitely, sexist moderators need to be weeded out.

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

^ I suppose that'd require my isteefa (resignation). :o

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

You know what I fear for the fate of this thread.

A lock with no results.

Do not call me pessimistic but I am just saying it based on what’s been happening here anyway.

I really pray that some thing good come out of it. Aameen.

I think mods are doing a very fine job and those who label them as extreme should learn a thing or two about Islam first themselves.

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

sadiyah i think gizzy would know about the rating system.

I disagree that saying that something is shirk (thereby the recipeint of that is a mushrik and out of Islam) is merely a statement of belief and not offensive. Saying that i believe your Prophet is a child molester (nauzubillah) is also a statement of belief, or that I believe Hindus should stop drinking cow urine is also a statement of belief. The latter two statements would get removed, even if the poster believes them to be correct. Why? Because they are offensive to those who recieve them even if somehow those who use it find a way to think it shouldnt be offensive. And I should add that those who do the abuse should not get to decide the limits of it.

There is a huge difference between saying someone is misguided and saying someone is out of the fold of Islam. If you think misguided is such a big deal, then sure, ban that too. Bida is fine, I dont think anyone wants that out.

I repeat, I can say absolutely anything and defend it as a statement of belief. THat is a non-argument. Except for those who are actually using the shirk/mushrik label, every single person who has had it directed at him has been offended. And you should not dictate that only what offends you should be deemed offensive.

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

I think the Moderators here are doing an excellent job given the nature of this section. Religion is an emotive subject and we are bound to get scraps now and then for sure and should be tolerated to a point as long they they are not insulting or mis-representing. One more any statement made should be made to have a reference for it.

My two pennies worth.

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

Agreed. Allah asked us to make Islam easy to follow and as light as flower not as a thorn.

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

Dear Religion Moderators,

Humanity has been debating religious issues since creation with no firm resolution in sight. How come mankind can go to Mars, yet cannot figure out who has the right God? So best of luck on your honorable exercise.

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Moderators must demonstrate complete impartiality at all times.
  2. Mods should be judged on a much higher standard of ethics and they should strive to set an example for others.
  3. When Mods are part of the discussion, then they should excuse themsleves from any moderation responsibilities related to that particular thread.
  4. Members should have the right to challenge decisions such as closing of threads, removal of posts
  5. Certain amount of flexibility must be allowed when dealing with highly emotive issues.
  6. Form a "Disciplinary committee" responsible for censuring members and keeping a check on the mods. This committee must include select GS members, religion forum moderators and its Director.

This is a Religion thread, not a Islamic thread, therefore all religions must be respected and allowed equal opportunity. Simple majority rule can be suffocating for its minorities and at times mutate into fascism, therefore utmost care is required.

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

How about getting rid of shia moderators..

atleast not have one for the religion forum.

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

^ i think its better to have moderators from different schools of thought....
keeps the bias out of moderation....

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

Deliberate provocation. Here is a classic example of posts which are not explicitly abusive yet carry heavy undertones of religious prejuidices and are far more offensive. Normal reaction would include a barrage of reactionary posts such as what a moron, jacka$$, ibecile, hatemonger, $hitbrain etc etc, but these posts would be immediately edited for abusive language content.

Such postees need to be censured who deliberatly provoke negative reactions for nothing but satisfaction of their sick minded, petty biases.

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

You people do fine job :k:

As I know first hand the difficult nature of this forum. The forum drains you mentally and physically if you are assigned the duty to keep it clean and healthy. So I suggest following :

  1. Long term moderation of single forum is bad for moderator’s own health Moderators should be rotated periodically.. It would freshen up thier mind and energy level. I dont think there is any harm in switching them between culture, life , world afairs, science , religion, Pak afairs, khel etc

  2. There should be non-muslim moderators of religon forum in future too along with muslims. Christians, hindus, anyone who is interested. It would give much needed diversification

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

What is the current % of different school of thoughts among moderators?

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

^ there r 3 mods here and each from a different school of thought....

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

Ok, as mooli bibi has asked suggestion for improvemnet of this forum … and me being purana paapi I thought i should give my 4 aaney ke views as well :

Few humble suggestion for moderators, for improvising moderation :

1. Please remove/merge these warning, rules/ policy threads ASAP. There is no need to keep them in three *separete * , sticky threads on top for so long :flower1: There should be only one thread for all rules policy.

2. Sticky position is IMO is like prime time slot. There should be thread(s) there but for the purpose of education/ enlightment/ current affairs. Moderators should make regularly (periodically) make some threads sticky , which qualify the standard and deemed fit. For example member post very good hadees/ quranic verses , nice articles etc which are very good but they are lost before many people see the thread.

Moderators should (without hesitation ) make the thread sticky for a week or so for the benefit of members. The admin have made you moderators because they trust your judgement, so there is no need to hesitate even making your own thread sticky … just do it :k:

This would encourage the member to post more informative / educative threads and genereally lift the standard of forum

**3. **A moderator’s job has many facets. It could be the conductor of the bus or the driver … OR he an perform both the roles simultaniously. Ideally, you have taken the job then do steer the forum in such a way that people see a positive change :k:

4. Saying ‘Thankyou’ and ‘please’ does not cost a dime  and a smile here and there can brighten other person’s day.

**5. **Getting abusive/ insulting /rude remarks and pms are filthy part of the this job. No matter how much efforts you put in, you are hell-bound in the eyes of some members . So try to be professional and polite

Ok, I should end my khabarnama here :bukbuk:

Good luck and God Bless

:jazak:

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

Code_Red, thank you. I've merged the policy and relevant threads. It looks a lot neater. :)

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

Shukar hai, koi Allah ka banda meri baat bhi sun leta hai hamdardi se :bummer:

Anyway, you are welcome any time :flower1:

Back in history, the year was 1974 ( i think ) when 2nd annual meeting of Islamic conference was held in Pakistan. There was extraordinary hype as many famous muslim leader came to pakistan to Attend that meeting, including Shah Faisal, Muamar Qaddafi, Yasir Arafat and many others. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was also very popular figure in Pakistan and muslim world. He was working hard for unity of Muslim world these days…

Cutting long story short…For this big occasion a very good anthem was composed and sung by good singer. That anthem is still very popular liked by masses. it goes like …

*" Hum taa ba abad, Sa’eye o Taghayur ke Wali hian *

  • Hum Mustaf’wi ,Mustaf’wi …Mustafawi hain "*

From past to present and beyond, we spearhead change and strive for excelence … and we are follower of mustafa (pbuh)

Although it sounds ironical … but it could be a good motto /slogan for religion forum ! kiya khayal hai apka ?

Re: Religion Forum - Your Opinions

i think this Quranic verse is better:

Quran 11:88
ان اريد الا الاصلاح ما استطعت وما توفيقي الا بالله عليه توكلت واليه انيب
*I only desire betterment to the best of my ability; and my success (in my task) can only come from Allah. In Him I trust, and unto Him I look. *

i think it should be translation of surah fatiha
