Pakistan industry produced some top quality stuff in yesteryears but the reason for demise in last decades or so in my opinion is the rule of some uneducated producers and equally uneducated audience.

Plus the Zia administration with all its Islamic regulations, plus the subsequent Islamic zeal thats followed. Zia seems to have done a great job of purging creativity from our society.
Hoenstly, I used to hear about the kind of people that used to hang out in Lahore and especially Karachi back in the day. Artists, Musicians, writers… Where did all these people go???
