During iftaari, I asked ammi ‘aap ke waqton main fruit chat bunti thi iftari main’… I had idea that this fruit chat and dahi phulki type things are new additions by our generation to the culture we belong… but just asked to know what used to be menu in their time.

So amma told that, there was nothing like these items. and they used have dates , water for iftaar.. sometimes fruits… and then after magrib prayers , they used to have dinner. For dinner, they used to cook in afternoon (as there were children and elders who didn’t fast).

In Sehri, white rice and milk… In last rozas, they used to have siwayyan prepared at home.. siwayyan usually boiled with sugar, as milk siwayyan was eid dish.

I was thinking how simple their generation used to be, aur hamare nakhre khatam nahin hote.. samose / pakoRe, chat, sharbat, sab chale ga… uske baad dinner pe bhi ihtemam hona chahiye…

What has been told to you by your elders, how was Ramadan in their days? please ask, discuss and share.

Maira khayaal hai aap ghareeb tabqay ki baat kar rahay hain.
