Re: RAM - Hardware Question
I just had this dilemma a week ago when I got my VAIO repaired. Almost 50% of the things were replaced and it was all knew. Now the only thing odd was its every bothering 512MB RAM. So I talked to the techs in Sony and Best Buy, they said the same thing as above. You can try odd sizes, but they normally don't work on same bus. In laptop, normally its one bus for both memory bays.
So I opted for 2x 1GB DDR2 sticks, each in one bay. Now its smoking fast with Centrino 1.7Ghz CPU. I say it rocked for two years, now it will go another 2 without needing for any upgrade. Specially when I am not interested to run Vista on any of my machines. Instead I have Kbuntu and MAC VM running on it for pleasure on XP host. They all run in parallel with no performance degradation or hangs.
